Really enjoyed watching this and used to go to Rage to hear them. It’s a shame that they don’t mention that jungle came after hardcore. All the original jungle DJs played hardcore before jungle came about. It was hardcore that first used speeded up hip hop breakbeats and samples. Underground breakbeat hardcore is still alive and kicking in 2022. Respect is due to Fabio and Grooverider but I feel most of the big name Drum and Bass DJs fail to even acknowledge hardcore. If it wasn’t for breakbeat hardcore there would be no jungle or drum and bass.
@Noisesilo2 жыл бұрын
As with all history lessons, especially with a 4-5 year period packed into just over 13 minutes of interview, its easy to gloss over the more protracted route that the music took to get from house to jungle. I totally agree with you though, breakbeat hardcore, as its own genre, often gets massively overlooked, particularly the impact and influence of people like Shut Up and Dance. Not to mention the evolution of the sounds from breakbeat hardcore in 1990-1992 into darkside (92/93) into jungle (93-95) which led to splintering into so many different styles of music; drum and bass, techstep, liquid funk etc. I think the key takeaway is that the blending of breaks, speeding up of the bpm and ultimately removal of the 4/4 kick in place of a detuned 808 sub-bass didn't come from one source it was the contribution of DJ's speeding up or playing certain records at the wrong speed and producers from different musical backgrounds experimenting with samplers, incorporating other genres like ambient, dancehall, jazz, dub, reggae, soul, raregroove, IDM, disco and R and B into this bizarre melting pot of music that made something truly special.

These two are legends, but they don't half seem to suck their own dick. The bigger, more influential names (especially producers) tend to be a lot more humble. - not taking away from what they've achieved just my opinion. The amount of times they said "let's remember that.." "let's not forget.." during the space of 10 minutes lol.
