While on vacation we stopped by Archie's in May for dinner and saw Grandma Lolly. She told us to go see Paul. She said the Golden Nugget was due from Robbie and that we must go see the shop even though it was a Sunday night. We were on a time crunch and didn't want to intrude. Regret it to this day. Anyway Lolly was a peach and the FabRats Burger was really good.

Great episode today. Hunter, cherish these days with that car. You may very well look back in 30 years and say " I had to best time in that old Nova, damn I loved that car." You may have a brand new badass sports car, but there will always be something special about the first car you fix up on a budget.

Think about how much the video will bring in over time. Good investment plus you get the fun of reliving your youth through Hunter in this case. It also cleans up parts kicking around. There is litrally no downside to this for everyone. Also makes it more likely Hunter has a more reliable care to get to work. Nice to see Fab Rats seeing the big picture. They seem to look after those around them pretty good and are not wrapped up in the almight dollar. In my opinion thats the best compliment you can give anyone.

This Kid will NEVER FORGET WHAT YOU DID FOR HIM FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE. I had to learn the hard way TRIAL & ERROR, as my dad being a GREAT MECHANIC wouldn't help unless I screwed something up first. There was no internet back in the early 80's but some HOT RODDING BOOKS I bought & me saving up all my money for years of grass moving, shoveling snow. I acquired 1 68 Camaro & 2 69's, nothing special, 68 had a 327, 1 69 had a 350 & the other a 307. I wish I had someone too teach me but hands on, ( real experience ) with these cars taught me a lot. Ended up selling all 3 when I got married to buy a house, KILLED ME BUT IT WAS THE RIGHT THING TOO DO, I GUESS. You guys are such an inspiration, DAMN GOOD FABRICATORS & MECHANICS, PLUS YOU'RE NOT SELFISH, A+ FROM ME FOR HELPING OUT YOUNG PEOPLE.

This almost makes me cry with nostalgia. I used to work for a machine/welding shop that specialized in extremely high-tech systems engineering and vacuum welding for the semiconductor industry (mostly building wafer fab machines for the likes of AMD and Intel)... but the owner loved racing beat-em-to-hell and fill-em-with-mud sprint cars, so on weekends the place was a car fabber's dream. I had a Nova of the same era as Hunter's here, and we fixed that one up "real good". This was back in the late '80s to early '90s and I bought the thing for a song and a dance... but by the time we were done "fixing it up" over a couple weekends the thing was a gorgeous beast. These days, I wish I'd kept that old Nova - it would probably fetch a small fortune as it stood at the end of 1991...

Fab Rats family...that is WAY COOL that you are helping Hunter with hopping up and beefing up (posi, faster acceleration, more torque and higher rpm's more safely) his '74 Nova. I'm sure a lot of your subscribers would LOVE to see his car get disc brakes on the front (if it doesn't already have them), subframe connectors welded in to stiffen the frame, an 1 3/4" H-pipe in the exhaust, rear (and front) suspension work to make it hook up and also handle better, and you mentioned an aluminum intake and a hotter cam Paul...well OF COURSE! You and Ben helping Hunter out with upgrading his car, teaching him, your sons and the teens who watch your channel how it's done AND making some great, family-oriented automotive content at the same time is awesome.

Yours's and Ben's experience and Knowledge is amazing, as is your collection of spare parts. I think you could (and probably have) build a whole "Frankenstein" car out of the spare parts you have just sitting around waiting to be repurposed. Hunter is so lucky, to not only gain the experience but also the end result is priceless. Another great "Fab Rat" creation and video. Keep the content coming! BTW, I think you may need to get a "Fire Suit" for filling the torch. That could have been real nasty... Glad your still "Under-cooked". I don't think "Roasted Rat" would be a good thing.

Man you guys are literally the ultimate cool dads! The best times of my life were being 15-18 with my uncle (who was a lot like you guys) ripping apart our old FJ40's my brother and I had and building them up again. He showed us how the old 2F engine could be rebuilt with GM parts to get nearly 300hp and how to fix, patch or fabricate anything needed. Over the years we spent hundreds of hours in his old shearing shed working on our 4wds....half of that was rebuilding the crappy aluminium transfer cases that constantly exploded doing burnouts 🤣 Keep it up guys. Young men need more blokes like you guys in their lives.

I had a pushrod in my 1969 GTO (it had been rengined with a 428 H.O Poncho big block) that had the oil passage get gummed up and it wore down the top end until it was short enough that it began impacting the rockerarm. It loosened the rocker and pushed it to the side so that the pushrod would tap the valve cover. We ended up replacing the pushrod and putting everything together on the lawn behind a friends house in PA usinf hand-tools and driving it back to CT. Which is a longwinded way of saying that I love your videos. They take me back some 40 years or so. Thank you and keep 'em coming!

I had an old 70 Camaro. It eventually became a drag car with an 8-point cage, gutted with wheel tubs, fiberglass seat, built LT1 350, and a Borg-Warner Super T10 with a Hurst RamRod 4 shifter. That shifter was a pain in the butt to set up, but once I got it dialed in, it was super cool. But, the one thing that really put a smile on my face was going from a stock 10-bolt with 3.08s to a Ford 9-inch with 4.57s and a spool with Mark Williams 35 spline axles. With those steep gears and a 7,000 rpm motor (thank you TRW and Comp Cams), the difference in acceleration was incredible. You couldn't wipe the smile from my face. Moving from 2.73s to 4.10s and fixing up the engine, you might have to get Hunter some drag radials for that Nova and the impending burnouts. 😂

Now this episode is what should be in a lot of motoring programs. Getting young car owners cars safe, fast and sounding good. Thanks for stepping up on this Nova. This young man is extremely lucky to have the Fab Rats in his corner. Oh by the way, tell him to limit the revs to 5600 rpm if he wants to have money for dating young beautiful girls. You might explain to him that torque and horsepower can get expensive.

The passion and the enjoyment of building cool cars from this team is amazing! Which I had a mentor like Paul around when I was growing up.

Really enjoyed this one. Sons, friends, fathers - oil and grease - makings of memories. So many don’t have those relationships - I didn’t - great example.

Spark plug wire spacers...cut some old rubber fuel line in 1/4" pieces then use 1 zip tie for as many wires as you want to space apart. Looks great too.

The experience of you guys helping Hunter with his Nova will stick with him for the rest of his life. Way back when I was a kid a friend of a friend repaired my 1st motorcycle. I've never forgotten his generosity and I've never stopped paying it forward every chance I get.

22:33 I LOVE how Paul does rear end gear swaps, and transmission rebuilds, as matter of fact finish it the same afternoon stuff!!! :) ... I've done both ... but set aside a WEEK for a TH350 rebuild and two DAYS for a gear swap :)

I like the vision, and always am in awe, of the way you approach, each task. For we, who were never trained, so we wouldn’t be interested in cars. I became a stage musician, and employed the fab rats in cent. Mass. and my dyslexic psychic marines, helicopter supply mechanic. He built an animal, at age 16 out of multiple makes of cars, inspected it, and scared everyone.🤔

Great day in the shop, that new exhaust system sounds fantastic! And, yeah you never want to hear that tick in the engine, that doesn't go away unless you make it go away!
