3-Yard Quilts were such a hit in 2023, I'm bringing them forward in to 2024! I've got so much more of my stash to work through, plus SO many 3-yard patterns from Fabric Cafe that I have yet to create. More fabric, more patterns, more fun!
The goal for these quilts is to use as much of my stash as possible in order to clear space for new fabrics, notions and more! In the end, the quilts will be donated to local charities and individuals in need of a new quilt to call their own.
This is an extra special week of a collab project with the pattern designer herself, ‪@MACoutureCrafting‬! Using her new book Curve Appeal with 3-Yard Quilts with ‪@FabricCafe‬, Mac & I both selected a pattern from the book AND dyed our own fabric in different ways.
Be sure to head on over to Mac's channel to see what quilt creation she came up with!
Today's Quilt:

What a great idea to glue the pieced curved blocks. It worked perfectly. I’ve never seen gluing on this pattern. I’ve been quilting since 1974 and never used glue on a quilt. I just finished glue basting my 1000+ piece 2” square Tiny Nine Patch quilt for my first try and it turned out perfectly. I’ll be gluing my quilts from now on. Thanks for this excellent idea.

This was so much fun to watch! I have tie-dyed a couple of times with great nieces and nephews years ago. It was a lot of fun and everyone got t-shirts to wear! I have never dyed fabric, but it looked like fun! I feel sure your niece had a great time! Your quilt turned out beautiful! I was trying to imagine the colors in rows. You did it in the opposite direction! I like your idea better than mine. I think I will try the glue technique! Thank you, Emily!

This quilt is fabulous! What a great idea to use the tie dye and the Kona to create this. I think the "problem" with your other tie dyes was a saturation issue. You needed more dye on those other pieces. This quilt is spectacular! I thought you were going to do one or two color per row, but how you have it moving from one color to the next in each "row" is stellar. Love, love, love this quilt.

Yeah, I was trying to make sure the real project of tshirts for a 3 year old got most of the dye and using whatever was left. I think they'll still be usable in one way or another... just a reason to try it all again, right??

I bought the book as soon as it came out in the downloadable format because I couldn’t wait for it to make the long journey to Australia! Getting it printed on good quality paper costs a lot more than postage would have been, but I don’t begrudge a cent! The book alone costs me AUD30, and with printing it is about AUD60 all up 🥴 I am absolutely obsessed with all their books and to-date have made around 20 different quilts. This book is amazing and has taken me on a whole new adventure with curves, and glue. I love your dyed fabrics Emily, and what you created with them - you are amazing, as always 🥰

Great job, Emily 👏 It looked like using the glue stick on the curves made sewing together a breeze! Was it as easy as it looked? Wonderful finish 🤗💜

It was! I sewed all my blocks and would have had it done with time to spare at my guild sew day if I didn't accidentally oops cut that one orange piece!

The trick is to trust the process. It will look wrong until you press the seams - the magic is right at the end!!

Love it! Wish I could attach a picture of the quilt I made with fabrics I dyed. It's one of my favorites! I've also dyed fabric and used it for backing.

I love it! What is the freezer paper method? I've got a big project ahead involving curves. I will be making Lava Lamps by Canton Village Works book Splash of Color. I just finished collecting all the fabrics. The designer, Jackie Kunkel. Maybe you know her. The templates are in the book. So I was pleased to see you doing that. Also the glue stick piecing method, which I plan on doing. I can't wait to see this quilted!

Hi Emily. I’m also a Jamone enthusiast and wondered if your longarm machine was Janome. A local quilt and dealer store is advertising and I’m thinking of diving in. TIA (Sweet result, btw, the tiedye is brilliant!)

My long arm is a Q'nique 21x Elite (from the Grace Company) and I love it! I used a Gamill previously and I feel like everything from threading to the software is so user friendly and still produces great stitches

Looks like sewing these curves is analogous to sewing set-in sleeves back in the "garment" days. Anyone have that experience?
