Another informative video, Fran. I usually select my backing from a coordinating color in the "focus" fabric too. I also agree with you about using at least a textured fabric if I don't use a print for the back.

I’ve been subscribed for about a month now, and have really enjoyed all the information in the videos. You and your mom explain things plainly and simply. I’m not a quilter - yet - but I plan on starting as soon as I finish the other projects I’m working on. I do have a question, though. How do you store quilts long-term? I would like to make each of my 8 grandchildren a quilt for high school graduation, but the oldest one still has 8 years to go! I have no clue how long each quilt will take, so I’d like to get started as soon as possible. Thank you for such awesome and inspiring videos!

I watch as many of your videos as I can and have a few years to catch up! I always find that in giving the detail you go through in choice of fabrics is teaching me so much about coordinating fabrics and working with colours. At first, I think, I don't need to know the top fabrics but yes, I learn something new every time! It really is an art to do this effectively and I'm slowly learning 😊

Sorry if this has already been addressed (I did look through the comments), once you have sewn your 1/2" seam, do you press the seam open or to one side? I am fairly new to quilting and just took a class featuring the Bitty Bungalow quilt and forgot to ask. I was hoping you would mention it in this video. Did I miss it? I did enjoy the video and learned a few new things. Thank you for sharing your gift! I really love the 3-yard quilt concept. Deceptively simple, yet many gorgeous patterns.
@FabricCafe9 ай бұрын
Hello! When it comes to pressing your seams, it is usually up to personal preference. Pressing to one side or pressing open will both work. We prefer to press our seams open so that everything lays a little flatter. Hope that helps! 🥰
@cindyn9229 ай бұрын
Wow! Thank you for replying so quickly! I didn't expect that! I will press my backing seam flat then.

Thanks for the helpful information. My grandma always used a solid for the backings which was great to see the hand quilting done! I like using a coordinating fabric preferably from the same line and usually it’s the focus fabric. Do you ever worry about lining up the design if it’s somewhat directional on the back? I made a horse themed quilt with a panel for a gift, and the backing had directional horses. My quilter somehow turned my backing so the horses were on their sides when you held the quilt upright! Oh well!
@FabricCafe Жыл бұрын
Oh no! That is an issue. One of the things we do before sending our quilts to the quilter, we place a safety pin at the top of the backing piece. This way she knows what is the top. Fran

Hello Fran great show today. I'm a visual learner for the most part, I can follow a pattern but I have difficulties on some of the instructions. I learn so much easier seeing it done as you showed today. I'm wondering if you can do a show showing how to cut a twin size backing? As I said I'm a visual learner. When I make quilts from fabric Cafe I like to make them in the twin size. But so far I haven't completed a twin size quilt yet. So I really would like to see a visual on how to cut the fabric for that size. Before I cut the backing on the quilt I'm going to be working on very soon. Thanks for the time in making this video. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos from fabric Cafe.❤

I try to match backing, but I try to use what I have in my stash as I buy 108s when on sale. Sometimes, it is cool to flip the quilt and see an unexpected backing, especially on kids quilts.

What about matching the pattern on the backing at the sewn seam?
@FabricCafe Жыл бұрын
Hi Deb! I usually don't worry too much about matching the fabric pattern. I find that it all blends together in the end. If this is a preference, you certainly can spend the extra time and match it up. Fran
