I will always enlarge to a king size quilt. I may select more than three fabrics for the focus fabric. I find a pattern that works well with that concept. My number 2 and 3 fabrics will work well with my focus fabrics and I have used 12 yards out of my stash!

A favorite feature of your patterns is the strip piecing. Not many patterns feature that technique.

I made Twinkles in Q/K size for my sister. I laid it out on my bed and decided it needed one more row of blocks across the top to make it fit better. Fortunately I had plenty of fabric left to accomplish this. My suggestion would be to lay it out before you add borders, as I did. Much easier to modify at that point. Planning to do Curio with the Winter Holiday kits next.

Oh, I really appreciated this tutorial. The patterns look so different, larger!!! I so appreciate your visual of the different sizes! Thank you so much. I have several of your books. I'm so excited to make a quilt for myself (instead of quilts for the grand kids). Great job as always.

Hello Fran, great video on enlarging quilt size. The quilts you showed in the video are beautiful. I like the details on how to enlarge the quilts in the books. The extra explanation helps, thank you. And also your tips for adding a longer strip to the quilt. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos Fran You do a great job of displaying the quilts and explaining about them.

This video is wonderful. BUT Could you please*make a video* on how to add a border to slightly enlarge one of the amazing original 3 yard quilts? For Quilts of Valor and some Project Linus chapters the quilts need to be closer to 45"x60" OR BIGGER. I seem to remember that you had a free handout at some point but I don't recall (as a visual learner) ever seeing it. A cool video might showcase quilts that are already that size or are easily tweaked to meet those charity donation requirements. Thank you!❤

I am planning on 2 King quilts using your patterns so it is nice to see these explained. I have read and re-read the instructions so I think when I'm ready, I'll be able to put them together. Thank you, Fran.

I have added a row or column to severalof uour quilt patters, even turned one into a quillow. Just be wary, if you want a cornerstone as it can be a bit wonky.

I just made the time machine quilt but I wanted it a little bigger so I bought 1.5 yards of each fabric and added a row and column and widened the border. Turned out 57” x 75”
@FabricCafe
@FabricCafe Жыл бұрын
Awesome! Just with adding rows/columns you can get any size you'd like!

omg yes to larger quilt sizes, Lap is sweet for a gift etc but really only practical for having on a lap to cover cold toes!! Also i will admit I don't like the single binding method and never use it. I always need to buy extra fabric or use my own stash to make the double binding, It's just sturdier and a must after the investment made of fabric and batting. You want the edges to stay and protect your work. Also, if we have your books without the link to getting the pattern for bigger sizes, i wonder if we can include the bar code on the existing books to get to the link?
@FabricCafe

The books included the enlargement instructions within the pages of the book. We only add the link if we need more space for additional diagrams.

Hello from Streetsboro, Ohio. I have a question for enlarging to a full bed. You only do twin or queen/ king? Would I only do one less row of blocks ?
@helenaMe325
@helenaMe325 Жыл бұрын
I have been confused by the sizing for a while so just want to clarify. Is a TWIN what we'd call a single bed size, ie for one person only? Queen/King is maybe our Queen size? So there is no Double size? I used to think the twin was our double size but it seems not. Still confusing! Great video again and very useful 😊👍
@FabricCafe
@FabricCafe Жыл бұрын
Hi Helena! Yes, a twin is meant for a twin/single bed. A queen/king (depending on the pattern) can be as large as some king toppers or fall on the smaller side of a king, but larger queen. We do not give instructions for a double specifically, but following the same ideas in this video you could create any size pattern you would like by just adding more rows/columns. We typically suggest using 9-yards of fabric when making a double.

@@FabricCafe yes since I have a double bed, I always have to figure it out myself, because so very few patterns give you the information for that size

How .much for the backing?
@FabricCafe
@FabricCafe 7 ай бұрын
For our lap-size quilt, we recommend three yards of 44" wide fabric. For a twin, 5 yards of fabric and for a queen/king we suggest 9 yards of 44" wide fabric. Hope that helps!
