Fabula Nova Crystallis Mythology Mythos Audiobook FINAL FANTASY XIII | Read along: dilly-shilly.bl...
This explains how the world of FINAL FANTASY XIII was created.
This is based on the video debuted at Square Enix 1st, Production Department Premiere event on January 18, 2011. Since then, the video has been uploaded on the internet, but Square Enix has summarily taken it down in all but the internet's darkest recesses. So I figured I would re-create it as faithfully as possible.
You can find the original video (in Japanese with some foreign subs) at vimeo.com/32003599.
I did this to help educate people on the backstory of the FF13 universe not covered in the games! (Yes, this should be covered IN the games, but what can you do...?
This is based on the translations by Lissar. She is awesome and has done many FF13-related translations of stuff that never made it to America. Check out her page at this link: dilly-shilly.bl...
Some notes the video doesn't explain well:
-The "unsreen realm"/"invisible world" is Valhalla
-Lindzei used Etro's blood to create humankind
-Pulse, Lindzei, and Etro are god-like Fal'Cie, but Bhunivelze and Mwynn are a god and goddess, respectively
My question is, how did Pulse and Lindzei create L'Cie before humans existed?
I will be doing audiobooks for all the supplemental FF13-related novellas, so look forward to that!

Thanks for this! I've been looking for English audio paired with the original mythology images, and this was perfect. Knowing about this along with the events of the three XIII games makes the story and mythology even more powerful!

People will think this creation myth applies just to XIII but XIII was actually a collection of 5 games that all base their stories on this in their own ways: XIII’s trilogy, Agito (now Type-0), and Versus (now XV). “Versus: Final Fantasy XIII” now as FFXV doesn’t share the terminology, although it is still based on it.

XV has its own entirely different mythos, but there's some clear allusions/thematic callbacks to FNC, like Starscourge having the same role as Chaos, and Bahamut in expanded material having similar motivations to Bhunivelze.

If square gave this clear mythology on FF13. The story would gotten more interesting.

I agree! Knowing the mythology makes the whole story more enjoyable. I dunno why they didn't make this obvious to the player until the third game...

If they mentioned Bhunivelze in FF13 instead of The Maker, and tells us that destroying Cocoon and the death of it's citizens will open Etro's gate... it would have been more epic. They also failed to tell us the story of the first FF13 because it's too long that it won't fit in 3 discs that's why they decided to cut the game itself (which sucks). There are a lots of scenes like Serah going to the vestige, Sazh as the pilot of the airship where Hope and his mother rode for their field trip; Vanille trying to escape her fate, first meeting of Lightning and Snow, etc..

You are totally right, though I believe the "Maker" referenced in FF13 was actually Lindzei and Pulse. And yeah, those events you're referencing were apart of the Japan-only novel Episode Zero, which I have an audiobook of on my channel.

Because of spoilers, most likely. I did enjoy all 3 games story, to find theres an actual myth or legend it's mind blowing.

@@paoloibayan7055 Mentioning this early would contain spoilers better left for later. The information given earlier was enough until we get to the third game.

funny thing is as a huge final fantasy fan and a massive fan of the 13 trilogy i can say that all these people saying the mythology wasn't explained in the first game it was in the datalogue if you had the patience to read them then the whole timeline of the tree games makes sense and its not that complicated. and for those that reply saying why should i have to read information within the game to grasp the mythology/story thats stupid well its you people that are making game developers dum down games because they think all players are lazy and can't be bothered with stories or reading RANT DONE!

ChaosCloud96 People read in Skyrim, they read in dark souls, but can't read in one of the original game titles that made you read: a final Fantasy game. That's funny, don't you agree.

+warangelcloud +ChaosCloud96 Wow…you were already on this vid 1 month ago warangel? Well at least the same page with the Mythology part of this then. But…you and Cloud96 are completely wrong on assuming people don't read in the games. Oh! They do read. Especially in this game. But like a Crappy fanfic or novel, we tend to give up reading the Datalogs since they are BORING AS HELL! And are usually stuffed with Information that really isn't interesting. A few Examples would be the Story, giving you tiny Clip-notes about the Story so far…When the Damn game already does that when it loads up the file. Or its information about the Theme Park of Nautilus that DOESN'T have any Mini-Games to play. The Reason why people are willing to play through Darksouls and Skyrim: is because they Flat Out tell you the Narrative from the Beginning! Darksouls literally has a Cutscene that shows you the Creation of the World through War and Choas! Skyrim has your Character waking up and slowly learning who, what, where his/she is! The Games give you a better Sense of an immersion in the world presented to you! And The Rest of the story are there for you to discover at your own Pace! The Games even let you define yourself as the Main Character since you create your Avatar and thus rewards you for Going into the Darkest depths to find clues to the past and discovering the secrets behind Everything going on. But what's truly remarkable…is that Both games do this Through Simple Storytelling. There are no rails to bard your path unless its placed there for a reason within the story. You can Level However the Hell you want. And if you feel inclined to continue with the story! You can do so! Its satisfies the Player's desire to explore and discover! FF13 does not let you do that.

Daniel Ramsey Yea, those were bad examples. I'm watching a playthrough of FF13. There is no mythos in the database of ff13 except about that Fal'cie created Cocoon. I still like ff13 as a game. That won't change. There's been worst games. I guess because I don't mind linear gameplay that much. I also like open world games like Bloodborne. I fell for Cloud96's lie. Sorry about that. I'm playing ff6 now. It's slow, but I don't mind. Though I will say that of all FF games besides tactics, FF13 was the first FF game I beat. Sure, I beat grandia 3, Star Ocean 3, Legend of Dragoon, and others, but I didn't get into FF rpgs until FF7, but never beat that. Luckily, now I can sit through ff6 and ff7. I guess my first rpgs were arpgs: Legend of Zelda and Willow. I was a Mario, Zelda, and Megaman kid. So I guess that's why I like FF13 so much because it was hard and easy. You should check out Summoner 1 and 2.

+warangelcloud I feel like I should just throw out there that the mythos is not that important to FF13's story until near the end, and even then it can be enjoyed without knowing the details. And around the time it DOES become relevant is when you start learning about it from the Datalog by completing optional missions.

***** Well, that's why I kind of like FF13. The real story to me was about the lies about the war between pulse and cocoon. Everyone says it's not like FF10, but that was about lies. Beville actually caused Sin to appear because they forced YuYevon to summon it to take out Machina firing on Zanarkand. In FF13 you find out that the Cocoon Fal'cie started the first war in order to bring a god back and the sanctum is ran by the same Fal'cie that tried to bring back god long ago.

I played and finished FF13-2 and LR (I haven't finished XIII, but I looked up the ending), and this video, even though it predates XIII-2 and LR, REALLY helps clear up things and helps us see the motives behind Bhunivelze and why he does what he does at the end of LR... It doesn't clear up Lightning's end from LR tho, because from the way they show it, it's as if she became Etro again... and if Mwynn is in Chaos, she should've had a direct impact on the story at the end of XIII-2 and beyond.

Funny that this is something that Square has been keeping a lid on. I had a hard time finding meaning behind those cryptic datalog entries until I found a summary of this somewhere. Thanks for the reconstruction.

Admittedly I did stop reading a lot of them since I had trouble making heads or tails of it. Maybe one of those would have helped me put the pieces together. But I doubt it. I didn't have any facepalm moment reading them later, and the Lightning Returns murals only got me to understand a small portion of the mythos here.

They're keeping an INCREDIBLY tight lid on it. Back when the mythos was first shown at the Square Enix 1st Production Department Premiere, there was a super neat video and everything! But then within that same year, all videos of it online were removed and its existence has vanished from the internet since. It's getting to the point where screenshots of the video (which were used in Lightning Returns) are the only reason I know I'm not crazy.

Very well done, thanks! FF13's mythology is very beautiful and heartful. So Bunivelze was unaware that it was fate, and not Mwyn's doing, that the world will die? Is the world - the visible world, or just the human inhabitated Gran Pulse and Cocoon?
@TheScottSpot
@TheScottSpot 10 жыл бұрын
That's right, Bhunivelze was constantly worried about the threat Mwynn posed, even though Mwynn was actually preventing the world from dying. The "visible world" is the world we see in FF13, ,Cocoon and Gran Pulse. The "invisible world" is Valhalla, from 13-2. Glad you enjoyed the video!

I wonder if pre-human l'Cie were robot-like or maybe monster-like. I don't think they ever explain how monsters came to be, right? so maybe the first l'Cie were beasts who then reproduced and gave Pulse its fauna...

+!!!xXANGEL_FIRESXx!!! ACtually yes, it's based off of a real mythology. Concepts from this (Invisible world, a world destined to die, powerless goddesses) were actually taken from the creation story of the Emishi people.

!!!xXANGEL_FIRESXx!!! Yeah. THough I have to admit one thing - I really DO wonder just where they have something like a source for it. D: I would love to read it, but I think it might only be in Japanese - and even then, it might be somewhat of a rare thing to have come across there. (The real life Emishi apparently died out and/or were absorbed into ethnic groups of Japan around the 9th century. They're THOUGHT to be distantly related to the Ainu)
