I love the idea and theme of this game, and I usually play games solo. Games with a “dummy” mechanic are always dodgy for me though… but I love how there’s a lot of switching around and not being completely certain what’s a safe decision or not.

It's a beautiful little game. Mine arrived today. All the games have been designed and created to such a high standard.

I usually play solo (so thanks for this playthrough) but backed Bristol in hopes I could get the grandkids playing. Although they might not like the possibility of dying so quickly, they still might go for it. Thanks much.

Hey Travis- Congrats on creating a company and inventing a board game. I just picked up Bristol 1350 - and Salem 1692 - and love the book look. Thanks for the solo mode playthrough - great job!!! I can see this game being a down-to-the-wire and stressful game as drawing that last card (4) instead of a (1). A nice touch at the end with the disappearing act. LOL Cheers

Thank you very much! Our next book-box game actually launches in two weeks. It also has a solo mode. Here's the link: www.kickstarter.com/projects/travishancock/hollywood-1947-a-movie-making-game-of-strategy-and-deception

What up Travis! Thanks for making such awesome games! I co-moderate a tabletop games club in the high school I teach and Salem is ALL the kids want to play every time! It’s so much fun. We have also played a bunch of Tortuga and Deadwood. I got the deluxe version as soon as the Kickstarter began. Looks like another excellent edition and I love the historical accuracy also! Keep it up!

Thanks for the solo playthrough video, Travis! Nice to see all those "dummies" in action. I think their engine works, interacting with the game and the player in a balanced fair way. You were able to calculate and strategize a lot!

Thanks! We're happy with how they ended up. And you had a great idea about adding them in at any player count. They are pretty flexible to be part of any group size.

Thanks so much for the solo playthrough! I really love the design of this game. I tried play solo once yesterday and had a few questions would like to ask: 1. I see that on the set up, you put 2 pawns on the oak cart, but in the rulebook it said 1-3 players game there will be 2 pawns on the birch cart and 1 for each of the remaining cart. I'm not sure if that will affect the gameplay somehow. 2. On the rulebook it also said each player will start with 2 remedy cards, which I assume ghosts won't get any, but I see that you only start with 1 remedy card. I guess it's just up to you since more remedy cards to start means you have more options to choose from in the beginning? 3. I encountered a situation where me and 1 ghost were in the leading cart, and second cart was an empty cart, then the last cart had the other 2 ghosts. Then the ghost at the front of the last cart rerolled and got an apple, in this situation they have to move forward, do they immediately jump to the leading cart where I was in, and be the last place in my cart, or do they just go to the empty cart and be the front one?

Glad you enjoyed the game! We did make some minor tweaks to the rulebook after filming this video. Nothing major, but good catches! Here are my answers: 1. The rulebook is correct. It doesn't matter a ton, but yes the birch cart will have 2 pawns. 2. The rulebook is correct. You start with 2 remedy cards, and the ghosts get none. 3. The ghost who rolled the apple would go to the front of the empty cart in the middle.

In 15:15, you reroll a die not from the reroll previous action. I understand that Chicken allows you to reroll those dice up to 3 times, the ones the player rerolled in their action, right?
@rockie4200
@rockie4200 4 жыл бұрын
He rerolled the 2 dice that he wanted to reroll up to 3 times. He only did it twice since he was happy with the results from both of the dice. He never changed the 2 dice he wanted to reroll, so I don’t see the problem, sorry. If I missed something, sorry.
@ACTBOL
@ACTBOL 4 жыл бұрын
@@rockie4200 As I said, Chicken allows you to reroll the same 2 dice you re-rolled by main action. In fact, perform that action is a requirement to use it. Travis by small mistake took 1 die of his reroll but 1 die out of it, make perfect videos without edition is really hard. At the moment of my comment I was seeing the video at low quality, but saw it again and notice that the outsider die was a same Birch apple. So not big deal, but could be cheating otherwise. I wanted just to confirm if that rule wasn't changed.

I love this game, it's such fun and I love that you can play it alone. It is also beautifully designed. Just wanted to double check, if you're playing with Ghosts, on their turn do they choose an action on their turn, or do they just reroll a die? Also, concerning the Ghosts reroll, if they're the cart in front when an apple is shown then who moves cos no one is in front of them?
@Facade_Games
@Facade_Games 6 ай бұрын
Thank you, I'm so glad you're enjoying it! If playing with a Ghost, they will always roll one die on their turn. They will roll the die that is of the cart furthest ahead that is not their own. And they will roll an apple of that color, if possible, and a rat if not. After their roll, if they ended up rolling any color of apple they will move forward in some way. They will elbow forward if they are not in front of their current cart. They will dash to the cart ahead of theirs if they are at the front of their cart. And if they are at the front of the first cart, they will push the player who is on their cart sitting furthest back on that cart. If the ghost is alone in the first cart then they will do nothing. Does that answer?

In 17:41 May I ask why you can use the whip in blue’s turn?

You can use a whip out of turn. Since I had a whip I was able to use it to prevent blue from moving.

In solo-mode, if you get plagued at some point, does that matter? Or are symptoms all calculated at the end?

It seems as though you’ve initially loaded the carts contrary to the game rules. There is a chart that says for 1-3 players you use 4 pawns. ( three ghosts in solo) Two pawns are randomly drawn to go into the birch cart and then one pawn each randomly into each of the other carts. You show two pawns going in the last cart. Also... According to the rules 1-3 player games start with two remedy cards ... not one like you show here. Could you please explain the discrepancies?
@TravisHancock
@TravisHancock 3 жыл бұрын
The video was made before the final release of the rulebook. For the things you mentioned, please refer to the rulebook. Players start with two remedies, and the two pawns should go in the birch cart.

I do have one question with any number of play. It states that once you get a 6 you have the plague for the rest of the game, but you would still want to keep that a secret right? To deceive better, but you still mingle. What if you mingle and don't have a 6 anymore? Can't you just lie and tell them you never had a 6 if you mingled and ended with less than 6? with solo I know you wouldn't have been able to tell if the countess ended up with two 1s at the end, even though it was probably near impossible with how many times she mingled to not get it at some point? I feel like that factor is a big flaw, if there is no way except someone's word? Like I get "only play with people you trust" but it's just too easy to lie and it be 100% impossible to get caught. In the 5 player video, he ended with a 1 and a 3 because he mingled last second, all he had to say was, "yea I was never plagued, we win haha games over". This 1 player game, the NPCs could get two 4s but end with two 1s and they were "never plagued". Please any thoughts? I love the Idea of this game and how it plays and would love to back it.

In regards to multiplayer games: Yes, if you get the plague you want to keep that a secret since your new goal is to make sure that nobody wins. If people find out you have the plague they will most likely push you to your death. It's true that if you mingle and no longer have a 6+ you still have the plague. The question of people cheating has been asked a few times, so I'll post the FAQ from the Kickstarter page here: We have never once seen this to be an issue in any of our hundreds of tests. We have observed that when people get the plague they actually enjoy becoming a "traitor" and secretly taking everyone else down, and therefore have little incentive to lie about their true state when the game ends. It is also a somewhat rare occurrence to begin with. Usually each player only Mingles 1-3 times during the game, so often when you get the plague you will be stuck with those cards til the end. Additionally, it is not uncommon to get one or both of your cards back after a Mingle, so usually you (or someone on your cart) will still be over the 6+ limit after a Mingle and when the carts cross the finish. Additionally, it would be pretty easy to track down a liar after the game (since each player typically only Mingles 1-3 times). After some discussion about who contributed and received what, or even looking through the Symptom discard pile, you could figure it out (and not invite the cheater back to game night). Like in any game cheating defeats the purpose of playing. Imagine someone peaking during werewolves or mafia or resistance or secret hitler to learn all the secret identities. Why would you do it, and what is the point? If after all that you still think you'll have friends who cheat, you can have players write down their Symptom numbers after each Mingle or have a bystander or eliminated player check Symptom cards after each Mingle. This game's primary goal is to present a fun, exciting story with some high-stakes mechanics. We want to get your blood pumping. If anyone is taking the game seriously enough to cheat, then this is probably not the game for you. This is not a chess tournament. If you are looking to fight for your life trying to escape and/or to lie to your friends' faces to take them down with you, then this game is for you.

Shocking Shane, remember that in solo mode, when the player goes plagued, he/she loses and the game ends. If so, you can reset the game and try it again. Also, phantoms' Symptoms only matter when they die or cross the finish line, never during the game. About the people cheating inquiry, is a reasonable one depending your group, and you could instruct players to take pictures of their Symptoms with their phones after each mingle, if you find that something necessary.

so looks like you're constantly shuffling a "deck" of 3-4 cards? Not a fan of games like that. If I'm going to have to shuffle constantly, I want a bigger deck :)
