AppleInsider compares Apple's new Face ID biometric security system on iPhone X against its fingerprint-based Touch ID predecessor. Is Face ID more secure? Easier to use? Both? Watch to find out.

I just wish they had both TouchID and FaceID on the iPhone X, so that people who are hesitant can still have TouchID but be able to still try/test out FaceID.
@Rob165x6 жыл бұрын
I think part of the reason they did it is because you might also need your eyes to unlock it, if you're sleeping or lets say dead, the fingerprint scanner is still a vulnerability.

Someone tried to force me to unlock my phone with touch ID once, I can guarantee it was a bigger struggle for them to find the right finger/angle and still keep hold of both my hand and my phone than merely trying to trick me to look at the phone for a brief moment.
@adriandotexe2 жыл бұрын
Face ID is literally less secure than Touch ID. The problem is that the phone can be unlocked without its owner physically touching it. Someone can take your phone while you aren't looking, point it at your face to unlock it, and run away. That simply isn't possible with Touch ID. I just don't understand how or why they claim that Face ID is "more secure" than Touch ID.
@chrismundiath43482 жыл бұрын
It’s not. No two fingerprints are the same , on anyone - EVER. Even if you’re a twin, fingerprints are unique to everyone. It’s the pinnacle key to catching a criminal, so for Apple to say Face ID is more secure is based on their own idea of security; but it just comes down to marketing at the end of the day. Personally, I find Face ID annoying as hell. Sometimes it lags to capture my face, or doesn’t work. Touch ID has always been very consistent, which is why I’m considering getting the new SE3 as a backup phone.
@adriandotexe2 жыл бұрын
@@chrismundiath4348 Exactly. A fingerprint is biologically more unique than a facial structure. It's baffling that anyone could believe otherwise.

Face ID is quite literally 20 times more secure than Touch ID. 1 in 50,000 failure rate compared to the 1 in 1,000,000 failure rate in Face ID lol
@adriandotexe Жыл бұрын
@@slimerewoods5766 I don't know where you're getting those numbers from, but failure rate has NOTHING to do with security. It's just a reliability figure. Touch ID over Face ID any day.

The problem with face id is that you have to hold it relatively close to your face, or bring your face to the sensors when the phone is on the table for example. Touch id is easier in that sense

Much as I like the tactile feedback that the TouchID haptics render, exposure to water will in many cases cause for the haptics to stop working (since the s-called water-repellency is only efficient to a degree). Additionally, the TouchID's current implementation does require a bazel, effectively limiting the screen real estate or necessitating a bigger overall phone surface. Last but not least, FaceID may help keep the phone relatively clean; after shaking hands, touching things others have touched, while working out in a gym, TouchID-unlock of the device will soil it. Depending on whether your other hand is clean or not, you can unlock the phone without soiling it (or soiling it as much): for Me, that is important. I think, a slight vibration confirming the unlock (though FaceID) would make a lot of sense , given it doesn't gobble up the charge.

Why not both? Of course cost is a consideration, but if we really want the ultimate functionality with the current technology, TouchID embedded in the screen and FaceID working in tandem would provide not only the best of both worlds in terms of convenience, but also potentially even higher security. New technology might include retina scans with FaceID for similar convenience and security however.
@chuanfeng94924 жыл бұрын
The problem of Face ID is that you have to hold your phone so seriously upon your face at limited angle, while with Touch ID, you could start unlocking your phone while your hand is in your pocket. Face ID is full of tech, secure, fast but not convenient.

Having used both Touch ID and Face ID, I can see pros and cons of both. Touch ID: Pros: -More secure Cons: -The home button/my finger can get pretty dirty or sweaty, so I have to clean it sometimes. -It takes up screen space (though Android phones have it on the power button, on the back or under the screen, so I don’t see why Apple can’t do it too) Face ID: Pros: -More convenient (for me personally) -Doesn’t take up that much space Cons: -Less secure -Requires a notch, which some people don’t like (although for me it’s a nice design choice and I don’t really mind it) Ultimately, I think Face ID is better, but Touch ID is also not bad.

Ummm yeah I had face unlock on my android phone about 5 years ago, and I now I have an iphone with touch ID... face unlock worked perfectly on android but it has several problems that make fingerprint scanning more preferable in my opinion. You don't have to have the phone pointed at your face to unlock with a fingerprint scanner... that is very annoying if you're ever driving and your phone gets locked... it's also more dangerous trying to make sure your phone is looking at your face while driving. I think it's pretty dumb that the new iphones don't also have a fingerprint scanner.

I think people’s issues with the new iPhones(7-Xr) is that Apple doesn’t try to do what their consumers want at all, and because of this, many people end up reluctant to buy their new products. For example, replacing the headphone jack on the seven with another speaker, a lot of people were upset but most eventually got over it even though it has its drawbacks, along with this is the glass back on their phones now which has its pros and cons. People want options or they want what they wanted in their phone, yes there is the 8 and 8 plus for those who don’t want to give up Touch ID, but they should’ve made the Xr with Touch ID or something, and so the normal X and Xs(max also) could’ve had Face ID.

Touch id would fail RARELY and only when fingers were wet / sweat . Face id fails 15 times a day and touch ID would fail ONCE every 3 days . Can't compare . IT is also FASTER to unlock it . Most of the time, touch id doesn't even work. My fingers are often sweaty, or dirty, or sensor is wet.

Face unlock on most of android phone is crap. Face ID is using 3D mapping with infrared dots.

This guy should update his views on this video!!!!! It’d be nice to hear this “insider” say that Apple doesn’t know the meaning of REDUNDANCY when it comes to engineering their phones! Why not have both? We can have Stupid FaceID which sucks and a TouchID on the power button like the iPad Air! (Not an in screen TouchID because what happens if you break the screen in the middle of nowhere while traveling?) Also 2 ports on the bottom…c’mon Apple one for charging and one for whatever I damn well please to connect (like wired buds or headphones if my my wireless buds run out of battery!) Fix the design….oh wait…thank you Apple for fixing the design back to what an iPhone should look like….squared sided!!!!

Face ID takes way too many actions to activate. Tap screen, look at the phone, and swipe up. Way to dangerous to unlock during driving, like to turn the screen back on when using navigation. Also, does NOT work when wearing face masks or in landscape mode (like when resuming video or game). Just terrible… and terribly disappointing that the latest iPhone 13 still did not bring back Touch ID.

In terms of security , touch id is better. For convenience , face id may be better. I bought 8 plus because it is more secure given that I keep personal data on my phone and I don't want some relatives that looks like me opening my phone. I might reconsider once face id improves and becomes more secure.

Fingerprint scanners are; and always will be, better and more secure than Face ID. I mean seriously, if someone who looks almost similar to you were to get your phone, they will be able to unlock it.
@anji9623 жыл бұрын
They tried this. Twins couldn’t even get into each other’s phones. Also, if you’re asleep or dead, someone can use your fingerprint
@chandlersleziak64163 жыл бұрын
@@anji962 That's not true at all. How can someone use your fingerprint if you're asleep? You would be able to feel someone touching you as soon as they tried to grab your hand to try to unlock your phone. Also, I have seen many times someone with a face that is similar to another person's face being able to unlock someone's iPhone on the first try, and even on the 2nd or 3rd try if they somehow didn't get it the first time. Face ID was one of the worst ideas Apple had ever made because faces are not unique. It's pretty easy to unlock a friend's iPhone with Face ID if your face is similar to theirs, meanwhile with Touch ID or any other fingerprint scanner you would have to actually touch a person in order to try to unlock their phone, or you would have to find a way to grab their fingerprint using tape; stealing the phone; and then unlocking the device using the taped fingerprint. It's not easy at all to try to get into a fingerprint scanner.

@@fraudsarentfriends4717 I'm talking about face ID, not face unlock. With Face ID, you can disable the "eye contact". And for your information, face id uses infrared points and not a camera like android phones, which uses 2D recognition (face unlock).
