What is amazing is what the engineers did to take what was just a demo of a song and produce this song. As Roger (Queen drummer) admitted in the interview single this was "kind of forgotten about," but called it a "wonderful" and "real discovery. The four-minute dramatic and emotional track begins with Freddie’s vocals. "When something so near and dear to life, explodes inside You feel your soul is set on fire," Freddie sings over Brian’s guitar playing. "When something so deep and so far and wide, falls down beside your cries can be heard… So loud and clear." The refrain includes the lyrics "In the end, you have to face it all alone." "It’s a very passionate piece," Roger said in a statement. "It was kind of hiding in plain sight. We looked at it many times and thought, ‘Oh no, we can’t really rescue that.’ But in fact, we went in there again and our wonderful engineering team went, ‘OK, we can do this and this.’ It’s like kind of stitching bits together… But it’s beautiful. It’s touching," Brian (Queen's lead guitarist) noted. Freddie had an intriguing physical phenomenon called subharmonics that he used to drive his vocals to the limit. Subharmonic is a form of singing where the vocal folds vibrate along with a pair of tissue structures called ventricular folds. This form of singing is only used by Tuvan throat singers of Mongolia, except in a more extreme way. Freddie’s vocal cords vibrated at 7.04 Hz - higher than a typical vibrato range of 5.4 Hz to 6.0 Hz. To put it more scientifically, the famous opera singer Luciano Pavarotti produced a perfect sine wave for vibrato when he sang - a value of 1. Freddie, on the other hand, averaged a value of 0.57 - which means he was vibrating something in his throat even Pavarotti couldn’t move.

Thank you for your reaction to this powerful and moving song. I had not seen this video with the ending of the hand held microphone, and the vision of the hand letting go was overwhelmingly sad.

Since I first heard this song several weeks ago I have listened to it probably 70 times, give or take and never tire of it. The emotion he shares with us, and the message while obviously is about his own impending death, is also a teaching moment for all of us especially the youth. You might think that the concept of being in charge of your life is obvious but it isn't for everyone especially young people who are trying to figure out their futures and who they are. I wish when I was 14 or heck, even 8, that someone would have given me the idea that I have to make my life, my path myself. I sort of stumbled thru life. One more thing (sorry I am writing so much but I'm in my 70's and am really trying to keep this short) is no one mentioned the part where he repeatedly says "When the moon has lost its glow" which to me is like a person is dying and the world around them is fading. At first he says the whole phrase twice then he only says "When the moon has" and then another full sentence as if he has temporarily gained some more strength and then the even shorter "When the moon" like he is fading further away and then one more time, the full line and then he seems to have summoned all his energy for his explosive last message to us all... We have to face it ALONE. In the end, even with loved ones around us, we go on that journey alone. Such a moving song and his voice is still strong enough to give us this gift. And yes, the very first time I listened to this with my partner and he and I both sat there staring at the screen and then each other. Btw, I saw the other version first with the tan screen and floating dark silhouettes and except for the microphone at the end of this one, which again is absolutely stunning, I like the other version better, but that has nothing to do with the beauty of his voice or message. I'm so grateful Queen had this salvaged and I truly appreciate a professional voice coach putting into words what I was relishing. Thank you.

Brian says that they could of put the full overblown Queen treatment to this song but in the end decided to go for the simplified stripped back version and let Freddie's emotional voice carry the song

you can be in love with many actors, or singers, but it's just something that's for a short time and it's over. Did you notice the comments, how many people said that Freddie is the love of my love, or my forever love? I never read anything that was said about other singers, actors, etc., etc. there is no way back, when he sang he didn't sing towards the audience but he drew everyone to him,we literally are melted each other,I dont know how he was doing it,and still do but he does

You have reacted now to Freddie (best male singer) and Angelina Jordan (best female singer). Please react to Sissel (purest voice ever). Choose something from her Pioneer Concert 2019 with the Tabernacle Choir.

Makes me very sad hearing this, I love freddies voice and remember him in Queen who were a big part of my life growing up. Thankyou for the reaction. Floor from Nightwish said if there were anyone she would love to sing with it would be Freddie and she covered Who wants to live forever with her old band. Someone mixed both together so we have Freddie and FLoor together. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pn-WhYmBn72Sg8U

It's a shame that Queen decided to use a lot of pitch correction on this song. I'm surprised no one else can hear it.

It's been explained how it was done in another YT video, perhaps you already watched it but nobody will acknowledge it because it's FREDDIE however, it wasn't Freddie's doing it's the record company who's to blame for cheapening it. Nice comment even if nobody doesn't want to know

Listening to the original demos they did not need to pitch correct Freddie. Although the engineers might have thought they needed to make Freddie’s voice “perfect”, it’s all the little imperfections in his vocals that give it more emotion. I agree, that last shot of Freddie’s hand sliding down the microphone is very poignant. With all that said, I love the song. Thanks for the reaction. I’d be interested in your reaction of Freddie and Montserrat Caballe’s Golden Boy.

@@AliT0555 I am sure that the engineers who salvaged this song did the best they could with what was available to them. What is the alternative - leave the song in the vault unheard? I also love this song regardless.
@jacekszychowski4919
@jacekszychowski4919 2 жыл бұрын
The alternative was to leave the man's voice alone. I mean I'm ok with the engineers using some sort of advanced studio software in order to restore the quality of the recording but why the hell did they meddle with the pitch of Freddie's voice? I wanna hear the man, his true feeling and emotion, and not some pitch corrected version of him. I love the song, but it feels awkward when I know it's not really him, not the way he sang it in the studio.
