This video is life! I think a lot of the fact painting design comes with time and practice, but you can't practice having a good business sense. Everything you covered are all questions I had and had to figure out on my own. It's awesome that you are so open about your business and are willing to share your knowledge.

Can you make a video on how you deal with “problems” such as skin problems, wild kids, child that won’t sit still, rude parents, cutting of the line at the end of an event, etc.?

Fantastic video! This will be such a help! Question for you that I was hoping you could answer. How do you follow up with people who you’ve given information too, but haven’t responded back? And what do you say when someone says they will have maybe 4 more kids at a party than you can paint in the one hour they have booked? I always suggest they book an additional hour to avoid leaving anyone out, but I don’t want them to think that I won’t spend the full time booked painting kids and that they’ve wasted their money. It’s easy to show them that once you’re there, but parents assume that if I can paint 10 kids in an hour, it should only take me maybe 20 minutes to paint another 4 so then what are they paying another 40 minutes for. Sorry for rambling! 🙊
@Arielpaints5 жыл бұрын
I just ask them if they are sill interested. When it comes to booking you just have to stand firm that you book by the hour and half hour...not minute. Most people understand that I think. You can't book other services by the minute so we are no different. Hope that helps.

Thank you so much I absolutely love this video it has been so helpful as I work towards becoming a professional face painter!! I do have a question for you what do you do as far as receipts/ invoices for your parties and for businesses who contract your services can you make a video on that please?
@Arielpaints5 жыл бұрын
I probably won't get to a video on that soon because I'm swamped but I quickly mentioned PayPal...that's what I use for invoices and keeping track of payment. There is a fee but I like what I can do with it and connect it to my business bank account so I can keep track of what is coming in and out.

Today (2023) I have "Square" to pay on the spot and "Invoice App" (from Square) to create and send my invoice, and clients pay after sending my invoice using the app. My question will be, how/when do you send the link/bank account to receive the deposit?
@Arielpaints Жыл бұрын
When I was taking deposits regularly I required it up front and it was required in order to secure a date. Now after MANY years almost every gig I do is grandfathered in and I've been doing them for so many years I don't even ask for one. But if you are starting out I wouldn't recommend that at all.

Hi, it depends on what coverage you need or want. I would search the topic in one of the Facepaint forums on Facebook and you’ll see many responses and option to that question. Then go get quotes and ask for the terms of the agreement and read it carefully. Hope that helps.

This was super helpful! So far I've only had a few gigs over the past year and I'm working on getting more this year. I don't have much of a budget for marketing and the business side of things. At what point would you recommend investing in insurance, licensing and such. Since I have to work a lot to find gigs I'm worried if I invest right now I won't get enough jobs to cover the expense.
@Arielpaints5 жыл бұрын
Well, I personal don't think most people get insurance right away but I can't advise you not too. It's never a good idea to work with kids and a small business and not protect yourself. As soon as you're able to get insurance I would. If someone is already helping you with your taxes see what they advise for starting your own business. You don't have to do it all at once but just start with one thing at at time.

Wow this is wonderful information. Quick question. How long did it take you to go from volunteer, building your business, to licensed and having an LLC?

Thank you Ariel. Very useful info. Only one thing looks unclear to me, and it is about the no refund policy. I read in your contract something like "less than 48hs before the event there is no refund... it that mean that you refund in some cases or not at all?

Yes, I would in some cases. It's really all depends on the circumstances for me and honestly have NEVER had it happen. I've been really lucky to have events not be cancelled.

Have you ever had anyone try sue because they or their child caught a reaction to the paint or glitter used? If so how do you handle that? Does the part in the contract and on your sign protect you from them being able to try to take legal action against you because of a skin reaction?

I send the google form and the contract separate. On the google form there is a line acknowledging they have read my contract. There are booking apps these days that are more seamless. This is an older/cheaper way to do it.

Your PPF rates are so much lower than your hourly rate. You would have to do all 15 full faces just to make it worth your while. I think you can raise those. I know your area pretty well and I have faith that you could go with $10 full faces without issue. My PPF rate here, in the Orlando area is a $10 baseline. Specialty faces, or faces with custom gem clusters are more. I totally get why you’d want the sliding scale, but I am fully convinced you could start at $5 and end at $10 without the market even noticing, but your bank account will definitely benefit. Totally unsolicited advice. Take or leave as you wish. I love Google forms too.
@Arielpaints5 жыл бұрын
I completely understand what you're saying. I mentioned that it needs to be updated because I have increased my rates since then and I can also paint closer to 20 people per hour if not more. I almost NEVER do PPF anymore so just haven't paid that much attention to that part of my contract. When I was doing my PPF events it was in a VERY low income area and people would comment about $3 so it was priced for the area. Always welcome the feedback dear. Thanks for watching!
