He should keep Monty at home in a terrarium instead of just in a rack like any other random snake he has

As long as that terrarium has a nice big hidebox that the snake undoubtedly is going to spend a majority of his time in just avoiding being seen with that said why not just use a rack and tub that acts as a constant hide it seems the snake would be a lot more comfortable and that’s what it’s about right not necessarily what’s the most aesthetically pleasing to you but what’s best for the snake What do ball pythons lives consist of in the wild? Basically hiding in termite mounds where it’s constantly dark waiting for prey to come to them. I had my snakes in terrariums when I was very inexperienced and then I realized they thrived in tubs in rack systems so I haven’t looked back sure it’s not the prettiest no my snakes aren’t on constant display but my snakes seem to be living there best lives and that’s the main thing you’re trying to replicate right not what looks best in your living room but that’s just me in my experience

They do enjoy their hides but they also enjoy to roam at night. I agree the big guy should be in a terrarium.

No snake should be shut in a shallow bin in the dark forever! :(

@@fireinateacup89 if you think that you know nothing about snake behavior, especially ball pythons. Many prefer to be in a dark, enclosed space as it makes them feel safe and they do so in nature. They do need to stretch out every now and then but not frequently and you can simply take them out to handle and let explore which should be done periodically. Only ever seen a few that were actually bold enough to explore a transparent terrarium regularly in front of people. I have a female with a huge enclosure and she spends 99% of her time crammed into her hides. I put her in a tub for a while and she actually prefers them, but I didn’t want to waste the enclosure I already made for her so I added a tub to her enclosure that she can sit in. Maybe once a week she’ll explore her tank and other than that she only leaves a hide to go to another one. That’s normal for them. In short they are not even remotely similar to humans or dogs so don’t project your preferences on them.

I have my favorite normal, She is 8 ibs. As well as a female pinstripe 5 foot 9 pounds, currently in a glow stage of breeding cycle. So excited.! Thank you for being honest. Especially about having pride to own a select number of snakes instead of 1000s of snakes or more and not wanting to be top dog with numbers. It's about the quality of life and good looking animals. Patience and Practice is better than impatience and the suffering of those animals who get no attention due to the sheer numbers needing cared for. On a End Note::: I loved that Pastel HGW YB gaahhh ... ❤️!!

Omg, I still have the first ball python and pet snake I ever had. I got mine when I was like five and my dad helped me care for him and his name is also Monty and he is in his 20s as well. Though it was funny we both still have our first snakes and they have the same name and even close in age as well.

That is a beautiful message there at the end. I know I was in a discussion last night on a fb group when someone asked what snake would be good for a 20 gal tank. Post created quite the buzz in the comment section. Long story short, someone posted a video of their snake in a 20 gal and I was shook. I have the same species in a tank twice as big and still think he deserves an upgrade. I had started a ranty reply, and then stopped myself. I didn't want to fight with this person. There was no need to fight with this person. So just didn't reply. Because things get out of hand in comment sections online. If it works for them, then cool. ..... But I kinda hope the person looking to fill his 20 gal goes with a small species. A very small species.

Love my Ball python! I break down and hold him, I have a male he is well fed maybe 3000 grams max, I dont over feed. He is stong, I handle him every other day or daily to keep him chill,hes 13 years old minimum

Please at least get all of the snakes out to roam SOMEWHERE regularly! This isn't right. I know it's common to keep them in tiny, shallow bins in stacks and stacks of racks, but snakes in the wild DO move around, explore, hunt, and use their senses. These poor guys are just there to be bred and made money off of. They don't even get to have a light! Nothing to burrow in, crawl through, smell, or any of the most basic essentials that Ball Pythons need: like a warm side & cool side and humidity. Why isn't this practice outdated? Oh; that's right...money.
