Facelift Confusion Explained: Deep Plane, Ponytail, Vertical Restore, OH MY

Facelift is not a one size fits all operation. Although there are variations of facelift that are trademarked, marketed, and even touted by surgeons as being the best, it is incumbent upon savvy surgical candidates to seek their surgeon based on their reputation and results, not the name of the style of facelift they perform.

I love this doctor for just saying it like it is. I see so many plastic surgeon who are just a brand and constantly promoting their skincare line and their "signature procedure" as superior with these dramatic transformations on youtube....like other facelift don't do an equal job for less money. One doctor always picks the perfect candidate that already looked very young so he can title the video "LOOKS 30 YEARS YOUNGER". I find this a insult to my intelligence tbh. And then you look on realself and you see some bad reviews about these popular doctor and how they ask outrageous prices. It's brave of you to touch on the subject of marketing facelifts and I highly appreciate that. I will like the video as well because more people need to see this, and start seeing thing in context.

Ex RN here. As someone who is a hobby artist, I always admired good plastic surgeons because of the level of artistry. No two people are alike, and one needs to have the best procedure to suit a particular patient. An exceptional surgeon will get it right for each patient, and may have to vary things to suit and individuals needs. Kinda like when you get clothing tailored for the best fit, if not a little more complex!

I'll be getting a deep plane facelift in November (along with a few other desperately needed upgrades), but then I just recently heard about Vertical Restore, researched that and thought to myself, 'am I getting the best that can be done for me?' You definitely put me at ease. For the record I'm not having my facelift in Canada....I can't afford western society's greedy culture. Hell...I can barely afford Canada anymore! Yep medical tourism is that cheap in the East. Thank goodness.

As volumization (with fillers/fat) is more the prevalent tool for midface contouring it seems that the effect of the surgical lift is directed mostly to lower cheek area. I see value in deep techniques (lateral low or highsmas, deep/composite) but doing those are not without tradeoffs. Maybe we will see in the future a shift toward lower smas procedures that many times can be acomplished with less demanding procedures (smasectomy, plication, macs, stacking). I agree that branded facelifts are an oversimplification in the sake of marketing benefits and that theres not such thing as an all seasons facelift.

I started to notice that branded facelift procedures seemed gimmicky. Kind of like "My facelift is better than that other doctor's facelift." There is an art to what you guys do, so there must also be a little of this and a little of that to the particular situation at hand.

For me the first to do is researching a very good plastic surgeon, I see some people having good deep plane facelift and also people who have fantastic deep plane facelift, sorry to tell that but some surgeon are better than other, some people with fantastic deep plane facelift look amazing and some the results are less good less natural with the pulled effect at the corner of the mouth.

Can you advise as to how the draping of skin different? If a deep plane facelift is performed, wouldn’t each patient get the proper draping that would match the operation?

In many cases a deep plane is enough, but only when there is enough skin undermining to redrape it without dog ears, bunching, or tension. Some degree of skin undermining makes for better results without compromising the power of deep plane resuspension.
