I've distilled alcohol and water before, I just never considered applying the concept to air. If factories would distill their pollutants we could probably derive all sorts of useful materials from them. =)

This is not a "cleaning stuff up" technology. It produces a lot of pollution, and it consumes a lot of energy in the process. The compressors, coolers, etc, consume gasoline/diesel/electricity, they use cooling agents, freons and other pollutants. It is not a "green paradise". The "air separation factory" is a factory, like any other, it uses a lot of energy, like any other, and it pollutes the environment like any other. To "clean" (separate, whatever) a cubic meter of air, it dirties another two cubic meters, which it releases in the atmosphere. (Edit: Not talking about noise pollution, etc). As long as it can sell its products (fractions of air) and make profit, it goes. When not, it stops, and goes to the grave taking your shares with it. :)

There's still trace neon, hydrogen, and helium in the liquid oxygen, no doubt!

same process as distilling alcohol for beer, liquors etc but with cooled liquified air. just the only difference is the temperature
