PART 6 -- ON OUR ADVENTURES SOUTH (Missouri, Arkansas & Texas).
It was one of their own, Wesley Wayne Miller - hidden within the circle of friends all the time.

THIS STORY:
It was 1981, in a small town called River Oaks, Texas. The entire community was in perpetual fear because these was a sexual predator on the loose. And he was just hanging out right there. But then assaults would turn into murder.
On January 21, 1982, Retha Stratton was just 18 years old when her roommate found her lying dead on the floor of their apartment.
THIS CHANNEL:
_________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

Such a frustrating case. I did a Google search and found a recent article about Wesley. From the article: In 1991, Wesley qualified for a program that allowed release for good behavior. With Retha’s loved ones protesting, Wesley was released into a halfway house elsewhere and was soon arrested for attempted assault. After serving five years, he was out of prison but was transferred to a county jail where his whereabouts would be checked via a GPS monitor on his person. In 2006, he was civilly committed under Texas’ Sexually Violent Predator Program. As a result, Wesley was required to live in jail even after his release in 2007. A few years later, Wesley was sent back to prison for violating the terms of his release, including having a relationship with a female jailer. As per the show, he now remains under mandatory supervision at a secure treatment facility for violent sexual offenders in Littlefield, Texas. Between 1992 and 2018, Wesley was released from prison several times but was arrested again for violating the terms of his parole. What a winner! I am glad he is off the streets.

As a niece of a murder victim, I agree, our justice system is extremely flawed! I live in Utah and the piece of garbage who murdered my uncle (I refuse to call him a man) was up for parole a year and a half later! We wrote letters to them to beg them not to release him. This was for capital murder back in 1989! He even told the judge back then he planned to kill my uncle that day. He didn't get out then, he served 30 years, which is FAR more than most of these victims get. The only reason he served that though was because he kept getting into trouble in prison. He kept out of trouble the last two years and was let out. We weren't even told he was up for parole. We found out after the fact, in the paper. In the previous years, we had a relative who was on the parole board who told us. (For obvious reasons, he would recuse himself) When I see these stories and see how little time some of these pieces of garbage serve, it makes me sick! I'm always thankful how you tell these stories and how much compassion you show. Even so many years later, it means so much to know that someone still cares about our loved ones. Thank you, Ron. 💜

When I contacted them, they said they tried to contact us by mail. My grandma is still living and still receives mail at the house where she lived at the time my uncle was murdered. So, they never sent any mail. My dad collects the mail daily for my grandma since she now lives with my parents. I was given the audio of the parole hearing and it was really just a joke. It was the typical telling them what they want to hear. However, we were lucky to have had him serve 30 years before he was released. Again though, I don't believe he would have served that long had he kept out of trouble in prison.

Thanks Ron, you really do go out of your way to tell us all of this. Thanks. Bless you

All of River Oaks, where she lived, turned out for the funeral. The church was standing room only, outside and most of the block. The line of cars, literally was from horizon to horizon. I do not remember a business that was open, period. I was there. She had an older sister that kept the fight to keep him in prison. Retha, worked at a local major business in their office(I am with holding the name of the company. But, my uncle was regional traffic manager there). She was a very, very sweet girl. One reason, I am told, that he only got the 25 years was the term "deadly" was not used to describe the knife in the charge against him. The DA, screwed up! Honestly, I do not understand how he walks this Earth.

I figured you were going to say he got the death penalty considering it was Texas but I was shocked he only served 10 years. That's disgusting! What if she had been the judge's daughter. I'm certain he would have received justice. Any further acts he committed is on the judge's conscious! Shame on him.

It wont be the last. Ethan Couch happened here too. After the rich kid influenza excuse he went off to a rehab place in California decided to leave and his mom and him got caught trying to cross the border and he went to jail for like 2 years after that. He killed 4 people paralyzed a friend and not sure on the rest involved. His on probation still, my sister ran into him at the probation office downtown.

Yes,it is outrageous that he was let out after ten years for "good behaviour" considering what a dangerous psychopath he had proven himself to be and how much evidence was suppressed during the trial,it looks like the rights of the criminal is considered above the right of the victim and that happens over and over again,so they believed he was a "well behaved" prisoner and released him,how naive of them! Where are all those so called "experts" monitoring those prisoners with psychiatric disorder and personality disorders ? It looks like they know nothing! And also I suspect "the law" also tend to consider the "cost" of keeping those criminals in jail, releasing them early "saves money" absolutely reprehensible!

Terrible thing. I'm near obsessive about true crime. On these shows I see this kind of thing all the time. I hear this where really dangerous people are let out for good behavior. The sentence isn't about how well behaved these criminals are in prison. The sentence is about the bad things these criminals do outside of prison. I know it's infuriating.

I will agree with you Ron on our justice system. It's too lenient at times. Retha was a beautiful girl and it's sad to see her lose her life at that young age. May she rest in peace.

Retha is a hero. For putting up a fight and getting blood all over him, he got caught. She deserved to experience her life. I’m from Fort Worth. Most of my family is buried in Mount Olivet, including my mom. RIP.

I feel a sense of shock , bewilderment and anger that these murderers are allowed to continue their evil ' craft ' by such gullible individuals . Thank you for all your efforts at remembering the names & faces of the victims. I am sure all their families and friends are truly grateful for what you do for their loved ones .

Poor Retha, robbed of her life, and the other young women he assaulted, many will never be the same, imagine the trauma and nightmares. Yet that insufferable got out after 10 years! Infuriating! Thank you Ron for remembering Retha.

Hi Ron 🙋🏽. This is really SAD ‼️ he should have gotten the same punishment that he gave her. She was so young. 🤔 . Thank you for sharing this with me ‼️🤓.

Another intriguing story. With a good ending because he was caught right away. Sad ending to a young person with their whole life ahead of them. You tell these stories so well Ron.👍👍❤❤

This is just chilling. I attended university in the Dallas area (Denton) about this time. A friend and I were chased from Dallas to Denton on the Interstate going around 80 miles per hour. . The driver.of the chasing vehicle was dressed as a police officer but was driving a civilian vehicle. We did not stop until we reached the Denton police dept. My friend opened the car window to speak to him . He had no ID and said she could expect a ticket. He then left. She never received a ticket. I do not like to think what could have happened if we has stopped on the Interstate.. RIP young lady.
