THIS STORY:
In the early hours of March 13, 1964, Kitty Genovese, a 28-year-old bartender, was raped and stabbed outside the apartment building where she lived in the Kew Gardens neighborhood of Queens in New York City, New York, United States. Two weeks after the murder, it was reported that 38 witnesses saw or heard the attack, and that none of them called the police or came to her aid.

_________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

We learned about Kitty’s story in one of my psychology classes. They made it sound like people where waiting for someone else to do something, but if you hear the eyewitness accounts, no one was waiting for anything. Most CONSCIOUSLY decided to nothing. They didn’t want to be bothered. Or they where scared. That’s not waiting for someone else to do something. Its a decision to do nothing. Rest In Peace, beautiful Kitty. At least your horrible death is not completely forgotten. Just used in a misconstrued psychology study.

Same here, I heard this story many times growing up in Brooklyn although she was murdered 5 yrs before I was born. The story got more attention as years go by. If only someone paid attention and did something while it was happening she may have lived a long full life but it was taken from her by a monster who I hope is forgotten in hell.

Perhaps her resting place has been neglected, but Kitty is most certainly not forgotten. I first heard about her terrible story a very long time ago. I remember her and I remember her name, which is no small miracle as for names. Coincidentally, her name and story have come up quite often lately as a terrible reference to stone cold callous apathy, as we see so much of it around to such a tragic degree. After all this time her story is just as horrific and chilling as ever. Thank you for keeping her story alive. RIP Kitty.

It's so tragic that no one came to Kitty's aid when she needed them. The neighbors had a real chance to intervene and save her life, especially since the criminal ran back to his car. I hope it haunted those two neighbors for the rest of their lives. May Kitty rest in peace! We will never forget her! In regards to the cemetery, it seems strange to me that the management doesn't trim that huge bush away from her gravestone. That's their responsibility to keep everything neat and trimmed even if family members don't visit. Thank you, dear Ron, for all that you do to keep the memories of these precious souls alive.

Famous case, frequently studied - we all need to remember the precious woman tragically murdered, when she might have been saved. I was stunned when first hearing this story in high school - growing up in Texas, none of us could process that no one came to her aide. The vile murderer will stand before the Lord and only then shall justice be done. I hope to make a trip to New England in the fall to visit a friend and will try to visit her grave, if possible.

Phil Ochs didn't mind being controversial. He used to sing a song called "F*** You JFK" He had a concert the night of Kennedy's assassination - with women weeping in the audience - and not only sang this song but invited the audience to sing along. He barely got out alive!

Thanks, Ron, for yet another tragic, but touching, story. I don't know how many cemetaries do this, but here on the Southside of Chicago, most cemeteries I'm familiar with will do maintenance on a grave if someone just calls the office to let them know. I've had sunken headstones leveled, overgrown plants, weeds, etc, covering a grave, cut back and trimmed. It doesn't even need to be a family member. Just something to pass along to your subscribers. In a lot of cases, only elderly family or friends are left, and can't do it themselves. ♥️🌼

This story is so sad. This should not have even happened to Kitty, if those people in her building had stood up for her and done the right thing by helping her instead of being cowards in their apartments, she most likely would have lived. How can you listen to someone scream for help like that and do nothing about it?!! That guy Carl wasn’t really her friend, if he was he wouldn’t have hesitated to go help her. Doing the right thing trumps fear… RIP Kitty, your not forgotten.🕊💐 I’m glad you did this story Ron, stay safe out there.🙂💟

Wow I have to give you some major pushback here. So much more to it. All her neighbors did not let her die. Many people were unclear what was even happening. The media sold a story that was not true. Her friend and neighbor a mother of 3 came to her aid at great risk to herself when she found out she had been attacked and stayed with Kitty as she was dying. Sophie Farrar. She was a real hero. Even her brother does not believe this story anymore. Very sad it is still perpetuated.

I like how people like Don go out of his way to explain a story for everyone on the internet to understand what happened to this young lady and for her never to be forgotten, wether he is right or wrong. But then along comes people like yourself who like to PUSHBACK and say it never happened like that. Well why haven’t you got off your arse and made a video of the True version of what happened, I won’t hold my breath. Maybe you could contribute and go clean up the gravesite and place some flowers there, that would be nice.

Ron, You may know this already but, there was a book written by Catherine Peloonero titled Kitty Genovese: A True Account Of a Public Murder and it's Private Consequences. It's possible there are some pictures in the book.

Thank you, I remember her story. I didn't know her death instigated the 911 system. Well something good came out of that mess, they should of sent the friend to jail too. Good job, loved it.

I remember hearing about this story several years ago. It’s just so incredibly sad! That this guy came back for a second time to finish Kitty off when he heard and saw that no one was going to help this poor girl. Everyone that sat and did nothing, I hope they heard Kitty’s screams reverberating in their heads everyday for the rest of their miserable lives! Thank you Ron, for remembering this young woman. We remember.

Very sad story. She was screaming for help and no one came to her aid. I cried thinking how she felt on her last moments when no one came to help her.

As always Ron, another amazing video!! Poor Kitty!! I remember about her story a few yrs ago...and it truly aggravated man so many ways!! the very last moments of her life were absolutely terrifying, painful and so very helpless😥 so many ppl heard her cries for help and did NOTHING!! then she being able to make it into the building, her probably thinking: "I'll be ok, my friend will help me..." then again... NOTHING...as he sat and heard her screams to him...how could that COWARD/COWARDS live with himself/themselves after that? it took 2 BRAVE women to go to her, and try to rescue her!! that is just unreal!!😡 her death was an absolute tragedy that was witnessed by so many heartless people...gutless neighbors, and spineless "so-called" friends...it's just heartbreaking and horrible...it honestly makes me so very angry!! I can probably guarantee if that had happened to somebody else, and if Kitty would have heard it, she would have done as those 2women did, and called the cops and run down to see what she could do to help...but unfortunately her life. all her hopes and dreams were taken away by a completely EVIL disgusting individual, which now is burning in HELL for all eternity!! Thank you for telling her story Ron and keeping her memory alive!! My thoughts, heart and prayers go out to Kitty...May she RIP 🙏💜😢

This is such a tragic and frustrating story that I’ve heard referenced many times over the years, and knew the gist of, but not in such detail. I’m definitely going to watch her brother’s documentary. I always have thought why in the hell didn’t one of the residents call the cops? Did they not have anonymous calls, then? Regardless, it’s incomprehensible not ONE person called the cops, and that a brave, healthy man didn’t run out to help the poor woman! That is an absolutely beautiful, well-maintained cemetery and gorgeous setting, wow!
