Iv missed a lot of your videos! I’m only 41 years old and two months ago I started getting sick and throwing up not knowing why. Lost so much weight. My stomach swelled shut from a stomach ulcer sitting where the stomach empties. I had to be transferred to a bigger hospital in a bigger city (Spokane Washington) and had a big surgery there. I almost didn’t make it. It’s crazy how fast life can change! I think of these stories you tell about how people died way back when, and had i been alive back during those early times, and this stomach issue happened, I would have died from it. I’m so glad we live in a time where doctors and nurses are there to save our lives! I have too much I need to do! No way did I want to lose my life at 41! THANK you for sharing all these stories because it makes me thankful to be living in the here and now!

Another awesome tribute. Death comes so unexpectedly somethimes. May that child always rest In peace. Here is a story about My Great Aunt. She got knocked over by lightning while she was talking on her land line phone. She was okay, but she never got on the phone again when It was storming. She said that hurt her worse than anykind of physical pain she had ever experienced. She had been through so much too! Almost killed in a bad wreck when she was in her early 20s.Breast Cancer, Bladder Cancer, and Kidney cancer. She also lost 3 of her children. Her son was burned alive at 25. 6 months later her Daughter died from Heart failure at the age of 30. a few years later her other son died from cancer at 42. My Great aunt suffered but, she was a survivor, and lived nearly to the age of 90.

Poor Emma! It appears that she has not been forgotten by the trinkets and toys left at her grave. My friend's 14 year old brother tragically died when he was trying to adjust a tv antenna that fell onto a power line. 28years later, I still remember that sad day and the pain that the family suffered. It was American Eagle flight 4184. there is a book written about this. anyhow, the following spring the remaining remains were buried in a mass grave in Merrillville, IN in CALUMET PARK CEMETARY.

Has anyone else noticed how this all came about? These horses get spooked and kill a person/ then Emma and her brother are interested in watching this funeral procession pass by so they go to the corner and Emma touches the wire and flies over the fence in Mrs. Sheets yard and dies. The day before a little boy touched the wire and was shocked ( am not sure if the little boy died). Then Emma’s father goes to the corner and touches the wire and he goes flying over the fence. Luckily Emma’s father survived and the inquest found the company responsible. Did the company pay Emma’s father for the death of his child? This is a very involved story with too many people dying. A dangerous time to be outside I am afraid. Ron thank you again for bringing us these sad and touching stories. God bless all that had past away in this story. 🙏🙏🙏🕊

This reminds me of my aunt Hilda. She was the sister of my grandmother and in the late 1950"s or early 1960's she also died electrocuted by touching a high voltage wire while picking mangoes from a tree. This happened in Puerto Rico.

The " guy" or more properly described as a " guide" wire is used to hold the utility pole straight & compensate for the weight of the wires in suspension; it should never have any voltage on it; most likely one of the voltage wires had a bad insulator that was made of glass back then; it could have had a Crack or defect & the voltage flowed from the defective insulator,to the ground wire that is stapled to the pole & if it was in a humid or wet environment, the voltage could have traveled from the ground wire to the guide wire; the utility companies in that day & time didn't have fuses in the overhead lines as we do now & most didn't have a circuit breaker,that would have tripped when the flow of electricity went to the ground wire from a " live" wire or even the " neutral" wire. Electrical safety has come a long way since 1897 ; it is unfortunate that like today,it takes the death of an innocent person to bring changes that could have saved a little girl's life.

If the energized guy wire had had a good path to ground, Emma and the others probably would not have been as severly injured as the were. Electricity always takes the path of least resistance. When Emma touched the wire and the fence she completed a less resistive path to ground than whatever path ( if any) to ground that was already in existance. Also note that if the electricity was AC, and presumably it was, then a defective insulator may not have been the culprit. AC in a wire can induce an electric charge in an adjacent wire thats how transformers work. So the charge could have been just sitting there with no path to ground until touched. You'll note that all guy wires on power poles are grounded for exactly this reason. It's also an issue around radio transmitters, microwave towers, radars, and other sources of AC energy.

So young, and to know that several incidences of injury had already occurred to other people from this same exact guide wire and nothing was done, no precautions taken to prevent further injuries happening to others. Such negligence by the company. You would think there would have been periodic inspections done of the guide wires, insulation of the electrical lines, etc, to check for deterioration and need for replacement of said insulation. I guess then, just like it is now, some companies try to cut corners and expenses on safety measures. 😢

My maternal grandmother's brother (my great uncle) was electrocuted in 1917 at 18 years old as well. He's buried in St. Casimir Cemetery (111th and Kostner -- off Pulaski Rd). Frances Kareckas (English version), but on the headstone, Pranciskus Karfckas, 1917. Couldn't upload the pics from our family FB group. Don't know the story of how it happened, other than he was climbing a telephone pole. It'd be interesting to find out, if possible. From a copy of my uncle's birth certificate, it shows my grandparents had him in November of 1917, so my grandmother, Magdelina (France's sister), must have been pregnant with my uncle when her little brother died. Sad to think of. She's buried next to Frances, along with my grandfather, Joseph Zilewicz and a baby daughter they lost a 2 years old, Emily. Even more odd, is my grandparents both died within 3 months of each other in 1944 when my mom was 12 years old. Her dad (my grandfather), was waked in their home back then and it was on my mother's 12th birthday. Lots of family tragedy there. Then her mom (my grandmother), died a few months later. Back then, kids would've been sent to an orphanage. Luckily, my grandfather's (Joseph's) sister took my mom in and finished raising her. But it still was weird because my mom literally lived in the attic and said she heard conversations between her aunt and her husband arguing about her being there and he was saying, "Just send her to an orphanage". Weird. Kinda like Flowers in the Attic. My mom always had a lot of emotional issues, I suppose from that trauma and more (her brother who was 10-11 years older than her), wanted to send her to work at 12 years old and according to my mom, was a drunk. Yes, unreal, but it's true. He hung himself in April if 1965, months before I was born (when my mom was pregnant with me). Interesting parallel to my grandmother being pregnant when her brother died from electrocution, only there was no love lost with my mom and her brother. My mom held a lot of resentment towards him for wanting to send her to work as a child and being drunk on the sidewalk. She since passed away herself in 2011 and is buried next to my dad in Resurrection Cemetery. Yes, I have a weird family background. I know. The trauma and PTSD somehow gets passed down generation to generation, like some kind of generational curse -- enough to scare me when I heard about Naomi Judd committing suicide from all her own personal trauma and how it seems we both have a lot of parallels in our lives that are similar.

I saved a little boy from getting electrocuted, he was climbing the back pole in the yard, I just happened to look out the window at the right time ran out there and told him no, no get down from there. He told me he wanted to swing off the lines that it would be fun. I told him if he was to touch those wires that he would get electrocuted and died. I'm just glad that I caught him in time. I asked him where's ur mom he said at hm. The pole was located in the back yard in the middle of our properties. I walked with him back to his mom's house to the other side and told his mom what he wanted to do and, that I caught him in time. She broke down and cried in shock!!!! The little boy was about 6 or 7 at the time. But, thank the Lord I was able to save his life. The mom and dad came over later that evening and, was thanking me for saving his life. I said ur welcome. The stud's to the pole we're removed the next day so kids couldn't climb it. I was relieved also. I wasn't even a mom yet when this happened. I just thanked the Lord for me getting up and looking out to the back yard when I did... 😇🌹🙏 Amen.

Her memorial is absolutely beautiful and it is amazing how well it's held up for so long. When you walked around the back you could see underneath it looks like her two little legs. So much detail went into this statue for little Emma. Rest in peace little one. 💞💐

I have the honor of officiating at 25 to 30 funeral Masses each year. Although most of the decedents are over 70 years old and died of natural causes, no two funerals and family situations are exactly alike. I can't imagine what anguish the parents of this 10 year old girl suffered at their loss. Prayers for Emma and her family.

Here in my rural area people did not want power lines due to horror stories like this. Power finally came here in 1967. A soldier back from Vietnam saved his deployment money and paid to have his house powered up. The Army spoiled him with running water, heat and lights at Fort Benning he said. RIP little lady.

Horrible, and a real danger in those days. A man known to us witnessed a similar event in the late 19th century in the weaving mill where he worked. And being only a witness actually drove him insane, by not being able to understand and cope with the associated danger of electricity. He had to live the remainder of his days in an institution. And also today no-one would want to witness such an event, either to a child or an adult human being. Fortunately death must have come swift for poor little Emma. As you remarked Ron, she has a beautiful buriel stone indeed, and some recent gifts to remember her.

Hi Ron. Same kind of thing happened to my cousin. She was climbing up a tree on our way to bus stop when she got it in her mind to climb this tree. Thankfully a woman who was a nurse watching us out her window Proububly thinking why this 5 yr old was up a tree when she went to fall grabbing the pole wire knocking her 50 ft no heart beat giving her CPR. I was crying saying over and over that she is dead. Nurse brought her back paramedics took her to hospital. Burned head to toe. Skin grafts. When Findlay brought home my aunt and uncle had to cover every mirror in the house she would freak out. No kidding. She's still in our life's. As always. Pj. 🌼🌼😇💖💖💖💖💖💖

Common cause of death in high voltage electrocution accidents, if there's no extensive burns, is ventricular fibrillation. The heart is shocked causing not to pump efficiently. Remember in TV where they use a defibrillator to start a fibrillating heart? The same shock can cause a normal heart to start fibrillating. CPR immediately can save the victim. Also a chest thump prior to CPR can be helpful.

In Columbus Ohio. A young boy in 1885 touched the first lights put up on the front street Bridge he died instantly. His grave stone in Greenlawn Cemetery has his likeness of what he looked like playing ball on top of his headstone. Its encased in glass now but still can be viewed. You need to come to Columbus to see it sometime

My Grandma Martin was always scared of storms on our farm in Murrfreesboro, Tennessee. Her brother was struck by lightning and killed while he was plowing on their farm in Oklahoma. That maybe why I'm not fond of thunderstorms to this day

So sad. I know if I ever lost my daughter, I would be next. She's all I got down here and pretty much the reason why I stay. I'm not sure how these parents cope for the rest of their lives. I love your yellow roses; they are so pretty 🌻
