STORY
The scene was deep in the hills of the Appalachia, at the Tilley Bend Church.
Elizabeth Tilley Bradley, a Creek witch doctor, was feared by all in the settlement. There was a feud between two prominant families, which escalated into a shooting at the church. A Tilley preacher and the sister who married into the Tilley family, along with other congregants, were killed.
The Tilley’s retaliated by sneaking into Stanley gap in the dead of night and killed several men while they slept, including the Stanley that married the second daughter.
Elizabeth cursed them all.
After that, much worse events would unfold.

This is true I set monuments in cemeterys for five years soon as u go into a grave yard if u don't have your mind on outside sounds it seems like u walk into a room and close a door and the quit down it's sort of crossing the veil or something but it's true I've tried to tell folks about that but when they try it they keep there mind on the noise and it won't work like that

It's the hollowed out ground. It seems that plus the occupants of said ground creates a form of insulation of sorts. Like soundproofing a space.

Not at the graveyard near VSU lol but Hickory Springs in South Ga is very relaxing... Sadly you can't drive through at night ... But it's still beautiful driving by during the day or night

What I also notice is the strong, heavy, thick feeling of grief and death in funeral homes. I can barely stay longer than 15-20 minutes.

My great Aunt was a healer and seer! She was never called a witch doctor, thank goodness. I still have her healing recipes made from natural ingredients from the forest. My sister and I are empathetic. We see & feel things, shapes & people that others do not. The babies died probably due to some virus, bad water, or something invested by the mother. Sanitation was not the best back then. Spells are only spells if you believe in them. Keep your eyes always on Jesus. Great series Ron.Good to be out traveling in fresh mountain air. An undeserved curse will not land on the intended victims. I agree that the babies died from disease due to poor sanitation. Infant mortality was very high back then, as was the likelihood of the mother dying from the birthing process.

My great great grandma was a full blooded Cherokee medicine woman married to a white man. They lived in Brevard NC and she had an apron with many pockets that held her roots, herbs, bark, leaves and such that she used for healing. Unfortunately she died while teaching my grandma. i know only a few things she passed down.

Thank You on mentioning our Creek Triibe.Very true my Tama Lower Muskogee tribe in Bainbridge Ga.Are still farmers to this day.My late mother was a Creek Medicine woman who worked with herbs and healed.We did good things.Modern Medicine till this day uses 200 herbs from our native peoples teachings.Very true up till the 1960s fear still instilled in our native peoples of hangings.

Absolutely amazing history finally being revealed about your ancestors and all of the kingdoms and cultures that eventually made up the Creek peoples. As a lifelong history buff, There was so much missing and many things lied about the SE Native Americans. There are still descendants in that area of Coosa Creek people that because of intermarriage were not swept up in the Trail of Tears. Rob in GA.

Also Tama being from the "Mayan" Did you know only 2 places the blue clay they used is only found in Mexico and Georgia. Also did you know there is a pyramid with same petroglyphs as the Mayans Located on Dawsonville Georgia. It's on the fort up there.They won't let people in. On one side of family was an Irish granny considered to have premonitions and "second sight" so she was called a seer/psychic. On the other side of my family was a Cherokee granny who used herbs to heal folks and also defined meanings of dreams. We also had generations of Irish diviners who found water, psychics who foretold events, and NUMEROUS ghost stories.

I’m just glad that I’m the 13 years I lived there, I never saw anything strange or scary. The most haunted places, and things I ever saw was when I lived in Maryland. There’s a lot of paranormal happenings that go on throughout the entire state.

I have gone by this church lots of times on my way to rocky point just a mile or 2 past the church! I had never heard about this till now! There’s another grave yard straight across the lake from rocky point that I have kin folk buried in! My grandmother was a Stanley that grew up around the Dial area!

Benjamin Tilley, the founder of the church was my 2x great grandfather. I have attended decoration at that church since I was an infant. The reason for the burial facing west is because in cemetaries bodies are facaing east so that they can see Jesus rising in the east when he come back as stated in the Bible. If she was a "witch" they would have buried her in the opposite direction. They church has changed over the years. It was originally a white structure and was added onto over a decade ago. Before that there was no indoor plumbing and visitors had to use an outhouse back in the woods. Before the siding that is there now, you could see the bullet holes on the outside of the structure. The infant death rate being high is typical for Appalachia beause of lack of medical care and disease. Almost all mountain cemetaries will have many infant graves. If I am not mistaken Elizabeth was the daughter of Benjamin. My great grandmother Dovie Tilley Long (Benjamin's daughter) isnot buried there although her husband Peter is. Thanks for the story.

The story you tell is almost identical to some she told me! She talked about walking down dirt roads and hearing babies crying, but, no baby was to be seen! She told me that her daughter liked this boy, and, Mom didn't think the daughter should be serious about any boy, so, she cursed his car! She told him, as she walked around it, that it would not start, no matter what he did. So, to appease her, he, the daughter, and Mom sat down and talked about how the young couple felt about each other. After some time, they were going to go somewhere (she told me, I forgot) and the car still wouldn't start. She walked up to the car, tapped on the hood and told the car to start, and it did! The couple is still married today, and, Mom passed away back in the early 80's. One thing I noticed about her. She had real tiny/beady looking eyes that could cut through you if she got mad at you! I can't help but smile, remembering her!

When I lived in Georgia I heard a baby crying outside in the night. It wasn't a baby though, it was a cougar. Big cats make noises that draw People in. I heard a wild cat say "Hello".

Nothing creepy about it. Infant mortality rates in the Appalachian Mountains was horrendous for hundreds of years due to the almost complete lack of any medical care. I have an old family cemetery on my property and it’s filled with gravestones of children. Influenza,polio, and other diseases wreaked havoc on newborns and toddlers. If it’s true that they buried the self proclaimed witch facing west they did so because they believe that one day Jesus Christ will split the Eastern sky and return for his own. Facing her body west would’ve likely been a testimony to others that she died and went to Hell.

Really spooky story Ron. Loved it. Wow. Elizabeth Bradley publicly putting a curse on the townsfolk and then the infants started dying. Amazing how the townsfolk thought it must be witchcraft and then for them to hang her but even more sad was that the deaths of the infants continued. I wonder what caused all their deaths. Very sad. May they and all the townsfolk be at peace. What a beautiful location the cemetery is set in. I have been to the appalachian mountains. Oh the blue ridge mountains. The Barberton Greenstone Mountains in South Africa. I read these are the oldest in the world. But these mountains are also very old. This is a very good video!

That's beautiful country and the graveyard is eerie, I didn't feel like you were alone while you filmed there. The story is sad because those baby deaths may not have had anything to do with a spoken curse, there were so many undiagnosed diseases, etc in those times. Many women got mislabeled as a witch, often I think they were just convenient scapegoats for angry or frightened villagers. Whatever was going on there back then, I hope that all are now resting in peace.

I worked at a historical house museum for many years. My coworkers and I discussed the fact that so little was known about food allergies/sensitivities at this time. We talked about the fact that women may have unknowingly fed infants things they were allergic to. Also, while nursing a baby, a woman may have eaten an allergen and passed it on to baby through the milk. This could have accounted for some seemingly random infant/young child deaths. Genetics could have played a role as well. My grandfather on mom's side had 5 dead infant sisters, which we think was result of a genetic defect in the female chromosome

I always enjoy hearing “Hey Gang….” Appalachian folklore is rich in superstition and often embellished. Though there may be discrepancies, (I’m a little puzzled by the dates and Elizabeth’s age), this story is intriguing, tragic and chilling.

I did a family tree and it was a headache. My mom's family was from town in the Blue Ridges. Sometimes births weren't recorded but baptism dates were, for example but sometimes there would be no record of people. I'm like, I know they existed, I have photos! Haha.

This is very cool. My father's family is Melungeon/Creek mix out of Virginia/KY/NC. My father is the first to not have been born in Appalachia. My Great Great grandfather started Pine Mountain Settlement churches in Ky. Lewis Lyttle. This old church is reminiscent of my family history

I've lived in Fannin for years, and have visited Tilley Bend numerous times. I've never felt uneasy, or that something was wrong with the area. However, a few miles down the road in Morganton is an area that is very disturbed but I don't know, and no one really knows the story behind it. We all call it The Chapel. My grandparents and other family members grew up in the area of The Chapel and have some pretty hair-raising experiences. You also just feel so uneasy in the area, like it's not a good place to be around. Great, informational video.

Fascinating Story from the past. Off subject but when I was a young child I used to dream I could fly. I remember opening my bedroom window which was on the second story of the house we were renting when my Father was stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas and I'd launch myself to begin my flying journey. Your opening video reminds me of those dreams because my view was just like it.

I have flying dreams, too. And, some involved great forested mountains. I think they were the great Siskiyous of far Northern California & the Cascades of the Pacific North West. The great North Woods. Many Mysteries there as well. And, my Sasquatch encounters (& many other peoples' as well ) I miss my mountains, & deep forest, & Sacred, Magical Coast Redwood Forests.

We’ve got a witch legend here too man if you ever want to come to Wythe county in swva it out in a place called Crawfish. There was a witch there too and she was treated terrible but I won’t spoil it you can look it up… but yeah the Appalachian mountains are full of beauty and magic and a bit of terror lol I love living here!!! Great story here man thank you so much I love listening to you!!!! Also I and my friends are mountain witches - most of us are very nice and know a ton about the use of herbs as home remedies but we aren’t usually nasty tempered to folks and we sure would never hurt babies! But the mountain witches are still here!!! 😂

I looked up the difference between the Cemetery and the Graveyard…a Graveyard has a church attached to the property. So this maybe a graveyard which is pretty cool and spooky. Thanks Ron. ☠️🧹🧙🏻‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙏

I was born & grew up in Fannin County Jawja. This is the first time I have ever heard this tale. My grandfather was and old time blacksmith in Fannin County and a big time story teller who told me many stories, including ghost stories but he must have never heard this story or I would have heard it as a child. Oh, I'm 73 now & my grandfather was born in the late 1800's. My favorite story of his was about when he was working as a blacksmith for the job where the government was building the flume line down the Ocoee River, according to him, in those times they used "muledozers" anyway the story was about a guy who was bitten by a rattlesnake on the job & it killed his brother.

@@lovealllife748 the babies should be treated same as an 80yo who died,or a 20yo!! Not burned or flushed down a toilet!! Have a name and funeral!! I heard that if an unborn baby is 5mon to 6mon term or more they have to have a funeral,the law. Don't know now how it is.

This is home ~ my husband built five house on Lake Blueridge. I’m originally from Atlanta and he had to convince me to move here. I’m actually using his phone. Sadly, he died unexpectedly but he’s in Heaven. 34 years and yes I was crazy young. ( I keep telling myself that.) It’s absolutely stunning and beautiful here.

There is said to be a Witch buried at Laurel Dale Cemetery, near the Old Rugby Colony, in Tennessee. It was on the tour when our Daughter was in High school. She came home so excited about seeing the Witches Grave! The houses of the Colony were, and are so beautiful! There is a Church, a Library, a Printing Press and More! I used to visit the area a lot. If you want to live there, you have to Build your home to fit the Timeline. There are many of the Houses that are supposed to be Haunted! They used to have a "Lantern Tour" at Halloween time! Groups do a walking tour with Storytellers! Great fun! The Old Rugby Colony, not too far from Jamestown, TN. Near the Big Southfork Park and Recreation Center.

I’m Canadian but I used to live in west jefferson n.c. So beautiful , stole my heart! It is also very spooky. There is a cemetery off Hwy 163, on Nikanor Ridge. Every time I walked by a certain spot along the new river,..I would get shivers. My dog and I explored the spot and found an overgrown cemetery . 😳. I never got a chance to research the site…sadly I broke up with American fiancé . Your channel is very interesting and…..Lest we forget. I miss my home on the Blueridge 🥲

I'm related thru her husband. You can see the bullet holes inside the church, no longer outside. The families today are friends. Tombstone was there couple years ago and someone turned her stone to face eastward also. Sister was hung one year later, they thought she would take possession of her body. Murder is still murder. Elizabeth helped lots of folks with herbal remedies.

They didn't mess around back then. I feel like it was scary to be living in those days. Someone just had to accuse a person of being a witch and their days were numbered .... and even their families too. Happy to be living in these times when I get to hear the stories and not live them.

I live In Jackson County in Western North Carolina. These mountains sure do hold a lot of mystery and magic....and I LOVE it! I live about 10 minutes from Judaculla Rock, and that's something I think you'd LOVE to see. Its no cemetery, but the feeling you get from being there is incredible. It's so fascinating to live in this area and travel around to see all the mysterious landmarks. It's an entertaining activity that doesn't cost anything to do if you live around here.

Fascinating and haunting story! The cemetary on the hill looks peaceful now, though so much stories are connected to that place. Reminds me of the old cemetary in Leeuwarden, Friesland (The Netherlands)'. The most quiet, green and beatiful place in the city. But the 'dancing' gravestones stand on top of a prehistoric terp-mound, built by Frisian settlers over 2000 years ago who called the place 'Fiskwerd'(fishing-mound) It was the site of Iron Age and early medieval farmhouses, a medieval convent, turned 'plague hospice' in the 1400's. It was raised to the ground in the 1570's by Spanish soldiers before it became a burial place surrounded by trees and water. In the soil you can still find traces of those +2000 years of history(iron age potteryshards, bone objects, medieval glass and briks, clay pipes from the 1600's etcetera). Peaceful by daytime with almost nobody around when reading a book there and full of wildlife, but at sunset... the athmosphere changes drastically. Floating lights are sometimes seen at night and also a black hearse with two horses that comes from nowhere and disappears out of sights. Villains, ordinary people and nobility lay nor far fron each other. Cemetaries and all people resting there deserve their stories told like you did right here.
