Brent, my hat is off to you for tackling that one. I tried cutting one once and swore I'd never cut another. Your polishing methods are astounding. I even put a sign over my machine that says, "No more Flourite." Thanks for the excellent video and presentation... Much enjoyed.

I love fluorite. The ghost stripes are fascinating. Tried doing one on my diy Faceting machine, couldn’t get polish like that, but still love it. Thanks for sharing.

I own several faceted fluorite as well as a piece carved like a butterfly and love them all. At one point, I tried to get a faceted piece in each color, but have no idea if I succeeded. That anyone can cut this stuff is amazing. That trillion with what looks like a concave cut is a stunner. Kudos on your faceting. That was a nail-biter!

You might wish to consider putting a cloth in the bottom of your Acetone Jar so that your stones (especially soft Fluorite) don't get scratched while dissolving the glue. I have a piece of J-Cloth in my jar so that all stones have a soft landing in the jar and don't rattle around when picking up the jar. That said, it was interesting watching you cut this Fluorite. I have some really nice blue Fluorite that I've been itching to cut but I'm chicken too. I have procrastinated for over a year and I'm not big on (nor very experienced) with polishing with Diamond. But I don't know if Cerium on a Matrix will produce a good finish on Fluorite ? But seeing how well your stone came out encourages me to reconsider my procrastination. Thanks.

Great idea about the cloth, im going to do that. cerium ox should work on flourite. I did this stone about 2 months back and cant remember if i tried cerium and then went to diamond for a reason. Good luck with yours, thanks for watching and your comments.

@@tennpikr74 Thank you. In fact I was just reading an (IGS) article by Jeff Graham about polishing Fluorite. He suggests Alum. Ox and a few of the others ... but anything but Cerium. So I might have to look into that a bit more .... or take the plunge and get practicing with the diamond.

I have only cut one flourite - I ended up cutting between the banding to get a solid stone. Turned out to be a very pretty stone with soft pastel color.

I love these videos! I’m looking to start faceting stones. I wanted to start with the less precious ones that way I can make something cool while gaining experience but without spending too much money! Are there any lap equipment you would recommend for a beginner such as myself?

go with a graves used machine to start.

I hate to say it, but if I were to come across a stone that had any problems I'd proberly not bother finishing it. May also have something to do with the fact I only can spend four hours a week at the club. Unfortunately work gets in the way!
