It started with a rusty old base plate, a cheap Chinese jade faceting head, some elbow grease and a bunch of spare parts around yard. Now I have another faceting machine to play around with.

Oh, LEDs make it run faster ;) Just inherited mom & stepdad's 6" Lee faceting machine, that we three had learned on together. There wasn't $$$ to be made, when I was 16. But now part-time, there is. After catching up to speed, time to pick up clientele!

I have a budget machine I get by with and it has the same head assembly, only thing I noticed is that the angles aren't accurate. I added a small right angle piece of metal on the cheater and got a small digital angle reader to sit on it. Love your work!!
@VintageTimeGems2 жыл бұрын
Yes the protractor angle was not correct on mine. I used a digital level and loosened the screws and made an adjustment. Seems fine, but I think I'd be using the digital level for 1/10 of a degree.

Hi Suzanne, it been freezing cold in Australia as it's winter. Life has been busy and I haven't had much time to relax due to work commitments . Hoping soon to use the new machine soon when I get more time. All the best Cliff.

At 1:26 I think he meant he used a bike seat clamp to set the height when doing the girdle. You can get these in different diameters. The whole machine is available on Aliexpress.

Did you add anything to the mast piece besides the spacer? I'm hoping to make a setup here soon and this looks fantastic. Also, how well does it cut? Especially since it only has the one cheater

I really want to see a full video of you faceting with this machine, I have this exact mast and am interested in how you cut a full gem.

Hey is it ok to set up a larger motor on such a machine because i bought befpte consulting with you about what kind of machine so mine is rather a cheap machine as well. But i was thinking maybe i could just put a more powerful motor on. What are thoughts on that?
@JonahVex2 жыл бұрын
Most are run by a pulley system to control speed.. idk if a more powerful motor would help because you dont want it to go too fast it would mess stuff up.. knock your gem off cause chips etc..
@VintageTimeGems2 жыл бұрын
I could get a larger motor. This has a speed control.

Great stuff! Is the base plate (that the mast attaches to and and the shaft of the wheel mount on) a custom cut piece or was it on off the shelf part from somewhere/some other thing?
@VintageTimeGems2 жыл бұрын
I think it was a homemade base made in the 70's, possibly a Robilt base.
