Face recognition glasses to catch criminals
I love the Chinese police for this but my first thought is that there will be at some point in the near future loads of criminals in those rubbish funny nose and glasses combo to foil the police plans
This is the rise of the cyborg police officers
They are operating in the Zhengzhou railway station are in China
They wear smart glasses which have built in face recognition and as a result have caught seven fugitives and 26 fake ID carriers.
Now first of all that is amazing but my question is? Is this a usual route for criminals or are there just that many criminals passing through that this is a small sample of those that go on the Zhengzhou railway station.
The local media have said that some of the criminals are wanted for their involvement in human trafficking cases
The glasses were made by the firm LLVision and the glasses are called GLXSS Pro smart glasses.
Zhang Xin at the firm said they are so light that the police can wear them all day long.
The face recognition software is 99.4% accurate and if it doesn't find a match then the picture can be referred to check on more databases.
There are now three police provinces that are using the technology Henan, Shandong and Xinjiang and the system also supports licence plate recognition software as well.
The reason the glasses are so light is that they are connected via a wire to a seperate device with a screen and battery which means that the glasses can be used for 10 hours at a time.
The days of google glass are over and things have moved forward a lot since then.
The glasses will be used in Abu Dhabi next and then after that Europe and the US.
Is this a good thing?
Can they be abused?
How safe do you feel with police wearing smart glasses that can identify you?
