The story about your bag is so funny because a few years ago I visited Yosemity National Park with my girlfriend and we also experienced a near desaster: We drove on a dirt road and stopped at a little creek in the middle of nowhere to swim. When we got back to the car, I realized that I must have left the key to the rental car in my swimming trunks and that it had probably fallen out while I was swimming. There was no phone service and almost all of our things were in the locked car. We panicked and of course searched in the water, although I didn't hold out much hope because I thought the key had surely been washed away. However, my girlfriend kept her nerve and actually found it. The relief was intense😅

What do the yellow Länd stickers mean? Someone for Germany was here?
@Frohds14
@Frohds14 9 ай бұрын
@@texasgirl9604“The Länd“ stickers are part of an advertising campaign by the German federal state of Baden-Württemberg. B-W is in the south and is the most economically successful federal state (Mercedes, Porsche but also the Cuckoo clock) ; the people there are considered extremely hard-working, punctual. modest, stingy, grumpy but warm. They are the nation's MacGyvers, with inventions on problems yet to be invented. Two things they invented are Spaetzle and Maultaschen. There's just one thing they can't do, speak the Standard German - Hochdeutsch. They speak a broad dialect, with soft sounds and always a -le or -sh at the end of the word and some -shs in the middle. They are therefore considered somewhat backwards and feel misunderstood because no one understands them. THAT'S the reason why they started „The Länd“ advertising campaign in English, because English suggests modernity and cosmopolitism. And they speak it well - albeit with additional -shs. There is also promotional video for The Länd - in English. Self-deprecating, of course. And in itself an irony, because only Germans and their Swiss neighbors probably understand the allusions. In Germany there was some discussion about whether this was intentional or whether it just went awry. The expression The Länd, is also a mockery. The People of B-W call their federal state „das Ländle“ in their dialect. The Prime Minister of B-W commissioned the campaign. He was of the opinion that, if the can‘t have a -sh or -le they need at least one Umlaut for the English translation.😂

What a great vlog! I was in Yosemite once. It is astounding. I was also so so happy you got your stuff back. Most people are good! We even got stuff back that we left in a cab in NYC! I am from Hamburg. I was there in August 2022. I drove from Mammoth Lakes over the Tiago Pass to Yosemite. Because I could see there because of the fires in the only about 100 meters far and because the air quality was suboptimal, I then walked a trail from Tiago Pass down to Half Dome and that was also wonderful. Nevertheless, I also found El Captain impressive! I loved it California and Utah.

When I was in Yosemite, my girlfirend had the great idea to have a horse ride there. I didn't care what she did at the office. When she came out, she booked a 10-hours-ride through that valley. I remember the pain in my legs- and the sunburn on my neck. A few days later I jumped into a pool in LV. And all there where laughing about the dark red stripe of my shoulders and neck... But, yes that was worth it. Yosemite is great. And I guess those who put the stickers to the rails are those who put your backpack into the bearlocker ... who knows ;). Btw Nick: Good camera work, good editing, and good music placement. You have really improved over the years.

Brilliant! My wife and I, and also my mother-in-law (the latter had never been to the States), did this and some more in 1997, renting a motorhome in Oakland after visiting San Francisco (greatest city in the States) and then touring the national parks and other places (correct the order if I'm wrong): Sequoia, Yosemite, Mono Lake (we ran into some people from "our" Hamburg office of the company we worked for, not knowing they would be there!), Canyonlands, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, Arches...I'm not sure this list is complete. What we did was leave out Las Vegas on purpose, as a symbol of what we most dislike about the U.S. Instead we went past there 100 miles or so north of it, stopped alongside the highway, with absolutely NO traffic, and failed to hear any sound when we got out of the motorhome. At the end of that day, we celebrated my mother-in-law's 67th birthday in some forgotten Nevada desert town, and really had a blast, as for the rest of that trip.

Hi Laura and Nick, we were there 1980 and it was not so crowded, but to see the US and Canada in a RV is absolut the best way. We had the best times on tiny national park campgrounds with only a small amount of service. You went out of your door and a bald eagle glides two metres above you, or a otter is swimming just a few metres away. Greetings from Hamburg🌄

such a great trip Nick and Laura. Watching you brought back so many memories. When I went to the US 26 years ago, we had the most amazing 2 days there. Our crazy tour guide convinced us to do a great hike, up to the top of Half Dome. 11 young people and he hiked up to the top. It was the most beautiful and exhausting and rewarding hike of my life. We saw a lot of animals, birds and chipmunks and even a bear cub. At night we had a bear trying to break in the rubbish bins. I wonder until today how we managed to stay in the tents. The next day we took a round trip to all the scenic views . Saw the sequoia Trees and a big hers of Bisons. It is sometimes strange, how lively this Vacation still is.

Me in my Yosemite hat. I enjoyed Lauterbrunnen Valley in Switzerland, which is longer than Yosemite valley but cultivated and tamed. For those traveling to the park, I recommend the Month of May. Always in the middle of the week and not near Memorial Day. The waterfalls are roaring, the flowers are in bloom and the temperature is just right. FYI. There is often a guy with telescopes in El Cap meadow so you can watch the climbers. At night look for the light of their headlamps as they settle in for the night. Look on Half Dome and other places like the arches where you can sometimes see the climbers.

My wife and I visited the Mariposa sequoias and went from there to Yosemite it was close to sunset and our first view was from high elevation. The color on the half dome and other formations was breathtaking.... truly....we were stunned. We had come from LA where our daughter lives. Our caveat when we visit her in LA is to get the hell out of there and see something nice. We hate LA, but it has been a good jumping off spot for Death Valley, Mammoth Mt. skiing, La Jolla, Monterrey/Carmel and the redwoods.

When I drove from Chicago to Alaska in 1993, I stopped at Waterton National Park (Canada) and left the light meter for my film camera on the ground. I forgot to collect it when I packed up and left. It was about an hour later that I realized it was missing. I drove back, and search through the grass where I had setup my tripod earlier, and nothing. It wasn't there. As I walked back to my car, I saw it sitting on top of the garbage can at the scenic overlook. Someone saw it, picked it up, and placed it there. There are good people in national parks. Something I've done with my digital camera... I printed out my name, email address, and mobile phone number on a piece of paper, and then photographed it using the camera. I protected the image so I can't inadvertently delete it. But if someone finds the camera, they can scroll through the photos on the card, and see my name and contact info. Of course, a thief wouldn't care, but if I accidentally left it like you did, and a good Samaritan found it, they would know how to contact me. I also have a luggage tag with my contact info on the outside of my camera bag. Great video.

Love that place. Stayed at that campground in the valley some years ago. Still remember the first time I drove into Yosemite through Tioga Pass. The sign at the entrance shows the height, 9945 Ft and I thought, "Woow, I am driving higher than the height of the Zugspitze, which is 9718 Ft"! I was sure that nobody stole your camera bag. I have a very positive picture when it comes to Americans. They are mostly honest and nice people, usually nicer than Germans. And yes, I would have done the same thing what Laura did and put it in the locker to keep it safe. Nice trip, well done.
