Pugs have so many problems... I'm a firm believer that we should just give the best life we can to the pugs that there are alive now and then hault the breed and ban it. They're not less just because they are pugs, but the poor things have so many respiratory and mobility issues...

Or, we stop breeding for super short nose in all breeds of dogs. Pug are not the only ones with that problem. Also, you have to know that breathing problem were not as common a few decades ago, because the avarage pug nose was longuer back then. It is recently that the breeding has become truly extreem.

The times I've seen my dad cry can be counted with two hands. Most of those few times happened when one of our cats died (not all at once, over the span of 30 years). He never was an outright cat-person and liked to jokingly complain about them, but loved each one of them nonetheless. The amount of care, effort and money he put into the last one of the bunch was incredible - kitty was on the verge of being elderly and got cancer. He didn't want another pet after that, it hit him too hard.

that poor pug, you can tell by her closed nostrils, horrendously short muzzle and curled tongue (sign of heat or respiratory stress) that she is really struggling to breathe. was hoping they could have done her BOAS surgery at the same time as neutering. poor souls should never be bred that way
@katie85705
@katie85705 2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking something similar, they don't like vets but they got a dog breed that is notorious for having health problems and on average needs surgery just to comfortably breath. I love pugs, I love their personality but I'll never own one. I prefer pug mixes that actually have a nose and decent palette to properly breath from. I think Dr Scott didn't push the BOAS surgery simply because the owners were already really apprehensive about being at the vet and getting daisy spayed. Also with Daisy as sick as she most likely wouldn't have survived a more extended surgery to fix her breathing.

I'm terrified of facing those fears. But twice those fears have thrown me into a state of obsessive urgency. I make a vet appointment as soon as possible, research everything I can about whatever the symptoms could be linked to and then obsess over it until I get answers from the vet. But I have never prolonged anything due to fear, quite the opposite. So, that I'm quite thankful for. My scared brain knows that early answers always give the best chance at successful treatment if that is necessary.

My chow is 16 years old, nearly 17. When she was 5 years old she had closed pyometra.....at the time I thought since she stayed in the house or was on a leash, she would not need spaying as she wasn't with male dogs. I didn't realize at the time she could have a dangerous infection. Fortunately I had a great vet for her and he saved her life. I still have her. I began working puppy rescue eight years ago and one of my jobs as a puppy foster is to care for them through their spay/neuter. I have fostered 215 puppies over 8 years, with only 3 losses in general and only one loss to a spay. I know that they will be spared pyometra or testicular cancer, as well as not contributing to accidental puppy breeding. I remember how very sick my Candace was, and I definitely recommend spaying and neutering.

Spaying is so important! My boyfriend's dog got pyo (he kept delaying her spay and then as she got older he was too worried about putting her under...by this time she was 11 years old). for me its the timing of the spay that is the issue not that it should or shouldn't be done there are current studies that say doing a spay/ neuter before the animal is fully mature is just as bad as not getting it done at all. its one of the reason i am waiting as my dog's breed she's an American Cocker they have a history of hip and joint issues that could be made worse by not letting her grow fully luckily for me i have a vet that understands why i am waiting

Gypsy reminded me of my cat. We fostered her, socialised her, got her to an absolutely amazing stage...then she went to be adopted and turned SAVAGE! Experienced handlers couldn't even feed her without bleeding. Three days later, I was called to pick her up. She was snarling as soon as we all walked in the room, so I called to her and told her to knock it off. The second she heard me, she popped her head out and turned into the sweetest, friendliest wee kitten. We didn't need a ninth cat, but she needed us, so she has found her furever home with us. Sometimes we pick our pets, other times they pick us.

The first story of the pug with pyometra hits home. My wallet got punched twice with non spayed indoor only female cats. Both got it around their 10th year of life. 1st one the mother of the 2nd cat, actually made me wonder if it could somewhat be inheritary. The momma cat was a no breed black cat, the father a pure breed Birman. My fam kept 2 of the kittens. The birman cat died of renal problems(aged 13), one of the kittens died before the father from renal problems. Really makes me wonder how many health things can be inherited. Both of the kittens my fam kept and momma cat are live today. 1 kitten is very muscular like the momma cat and has some renal problems like the papa cat, the other is very lean like the papa cat and has some joint problems like the momma cat. I personally own the momma cat currently aged 13 and a feral born male neutered cat who's in great health who's likely around 7 this year. He'd fit in my palm when I got the likely abandoned wild kitten who cried out so he must've been around 2 weeks old.

The renal problems are 100% hereditary - it's why breeders tend to want to test their animals before they are bred! My local cat fanciers association even requires it iirc. Not sure about how hereditary uterine infections are though, it very well might be, but I know the risks are higher with dogs. Something like 1 in 4 dogs to 1 in 50 cats I believe?

@@moccaroon anything is possible, don't think it's a thoroughly enough researched subject on what exactly is more hereditary. Could make some conclusions off breeders testing their animals but majority of pets are mixed breeds where nobody knows the pets ancestry. I have nothing but admiration for these animal doctors. Medical and surgical advancements have come so far over the past 20 years, and that has to be a great thing because our beautiful animals need the best care possible too. Thank for all the work you do folks. Much love and light. Paul. 💖💖💖💖

My baby Sadie the staffy used to get hot and out of breath when we were out. We would come back and turn the cold bath tap, and she would jump in and cool down. It turned out she had a tumour on her heart, pushing on her airway. 2000-2014, she was a beauty

Any time Atomic Betty makes an appearance it makes my day. She's so beautiful, even though she could eat me whole-- also the style of needle Chris used on Martha was shaped like an upholstery needle, to give an idea of just how tough the skin is.

It is a testament of so much love those two give the german shepherd. She is so terrified.. that poor thing. Thankfully she has two loving souls to make her feel safe and secure at home. I have 3 german shepherds. There is no love like it. They are their own persons

The segment with Gypsy made me cry. I felt her fear and pain. So thankful for skilled vets who removed this obstruction so she could eat like a normal dog. When I saw Gypsy bounce around after her recovery and eat her food, I cried tears of joy. xoxo

Aww the owners of the pug, it's sad that they are so fearful over bad experiences in the past. This pug is like their child, you can tell they love him so much, the fear amd worry in their eyes really showed, I wish this pug good future health.

I have a grandson named Cory who is an Arachnid and Reptile breeder Specializing in Buthid Scorpions and Safe and Humane Reptile removal. He is a Licensed Pest Technician. [That is what is on his business card]. He has 6 boas that live with him and his family. One of the boas is an albino with red eyes. I have told him that he is "my crazy grandson but I love him very much". He lives in Massachusetts and I live in Washington in the USA. I want to come to Australia to visit with all of you Bondi Vets! But first I have to buy a winning lottery ticket! Sending my love to all of you. I have watched you for a couple of years on the computer. I admire all the compassion you show in your work even Tim who to me is crazy like Cory "playing" with his animals at the Zoo.

Bless all the vets and staff that dedicate their lives to looking after so many different animals, especially the nurse who stayed with Alsatian Gypsy as much as possible during her time at the practice. She was so sweet and empathic towards the owners as well as Gypsy. A case of the right person in the right job. Keep them safe always 🙏❤️

Atomic Betty scares the wits out of me. I am so impressed with people that go in there and actually handles her! Now, that magnificent animal passed away in 2016 from old age. She weight a whooping 140 kg at them time (308 lbs). Gypsy was the one that got the most to me. So scared and anxious I got something wet and irritating in my eyes. I think it's a pity I couldn't see the surgery though I understand the reasons. As a nurse anaesthetist I am interested in the procedures 😉
