This algebra video tutorial shows you how to factor trinomials in the form ax2+bx+c when a, the leading coefficient, is not 1. It shows you how to use the ac method to factor such trinomials that contain 3 terms which involves factoring polynomials by grouping. This video contains plenty of examples and practice problems for you to work on. Examples include how to factor 2x^2-5x-3 , 6x^2+11x-10 , 12x^2+11x-15

THANK YOU. I am a Public School Teacher with a weaker math background and run a computer lab for students to recover lost credits in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Therefore, I must know AT LEAST as much as the material my students are exposed to. I have NEVER understood the factoring with an initial coefficient of more than 1. No one breaks it down step by step. With a Master's in Special Education, I must say, "A job well done. "

I did discover that when you get -6 and 1, you can just divide them by 2 x and reduce if possible. 1/2x. And -6/2x The second term reduces to -3/x. Now you have your factors 2x plus 1 And X minus 3

Theres an easier technique though. Multiply the constant with the leading term. Factor it then divide the constants with the same number, distribute the fraction to the x terms. 2x2-5x-3 X2-5X-6 (X-6)(x+1) (X-6/2)(x+1/2) (X-3)(2x+1)
