In this video we cover the "Green Tech Era": This is the biggest era where most of the building happens. In fact, it's so big, I split it into 2 parts! In this part, we do all the oil stuff and set up blue science!

Self-imposed rules:
- DEFAULT MAP SETTINGS (no tweaks, so biters on, research Q off (why god why), etc)
- NO BLUEPRINTS from the blueprint library/other games
- NO BOTS, no trains (self build everything, not even personal roboport!)
- NO TURRETS! (at all! Yes, also no gun turrets!)

Playing on a random map?
Most important features:
- Can you build without obstructions? (cliffs, forests, water, nests)
- Are there enough resources nearby? (oil, extra iron and copper)
Secondary features (bonus points but not requirements):
- Do the starting resources not overlap?
- Are there forests which absorb pollution?
- Are there not too many enemies?
Roughly plan out how your base is going to look:
- Main bus area
- Smelting area
- Power
- Oil processing
- Secondary resources hook up
- Memorize where the nearby nests are outside the starting area
(so you can guesstimate if any off-screen pollution is reaching the nests)

Why do you not like trains? They are good. Really good for long tracks between two points where only one giant train rides...

@@esajpsasipes2822 It's nothing personal, but i prefer belts and pipes with pumps to transport things. Later you can use robots then, so i think trains are pretty overrated.

@@thefollower1345 I use trains in my first world. Althrough i got a lot of lessons and tips during my play, i am not starting over yet, i didnt finish the world and i want to finish it even with my mistakes from past ages. I did massively expanded my iron and copper base-input with trains, i am using trains to deliver oil and uranium, i am making a train track for stone, and after my little coal mine near the base runs out, i will be getting more coal with trains. Also, you would need to still place a lot of bot stations when going long distances, and power them all. I dont know whats better and cheaper, but trains do work fine for me, i can imagine that bots are slow, atleast without a lot of bot speed upgrades. But they definetly work fine in short distances around base, i didnt made a network of logitic bots to tranfer items between chests, but i have repair, inventory refill and blueprint building bots that work good. One of my mistakes is propably clumping everything closely, with little room to expand production of one thing. But it wasnt a problem, just had a shortage of green circuits, and propably because of shortage of copper and iron, but i havent had a chance to test out if it now works, because stone ran out...

If you're not used to homeschool, I can understand it being an adjustment. My mom started early so she knew what she was doing by the time I could remember anything, but jumping into it mid-education would definitely be jarring. The biggest advantage is that you can skip/streamline all the boring/useless stuff, and use that time to socialize instead (depending on how bad your quarantine is ofc).

Ok. So, im trying to follow along and im going to call it a night so it gives someone time to help me. Im at the exact same spot as you are at the end of the video, however im very behind. I currently am at 4 hours 40 minutes with 3 hours 20 minutes left on the timer to hit the 8 hour mark. Is that too far behind? Should I restart? There are parts where I am a bit further than you, but im also behind because where you are building towards is near a lake and I had to make a landfill setup to fill it in a bit. Is the run too scuffed?

GAH. wish I had read the description when starting my run. just got to the end of this vid on my playthrough. 30 minutes over the 8 hour benchmark, and it's 100% because I chose a desert map (so I've had SERIOUS biter problems all game) I've largely stabilized now, but I'm not sure I can make up the lost time anymore. Might just have to wipe my map and restart on a more suitable one. Overall this series has been great though. It's easy enough to keep on track, even without the excel file (which I'm also only now just seeing) Maybe some youtube annotations could be added to the start of the videos pointing at the resources in the description? May help future factory workers.

@@mrleonspain I restarted on a non desert map, and while I still ran behind on time compared to the vid, I still finished with 30 minutes to spare! (And then proceeded to use the save to knock out all of the other achievements I was missing) The terrain type makes a HUGE HUGE difference, playing on a desert is basically an undocumented hard mode.

Ok, so here is my update: I finished blue science, but i'm like 45 minutes behind, and my iron is producing at like a third of max capacity, i have all the pipes on oil processing placed but thats all, i think it's the oil, i had to go back and forth 3 times to fix stuff. My seed: 2061217453 I went for the 1400% oil on the top left, was that worth it? Or would the 1200% thats closer be better? That is all. Should i redo or do you think it's saveable?

Finish it and see where you stand. Also, you can savescum. Build something the first time which is probably slowly, then reload and build it again, you'll build it much faster the 2nd time

my update from this point in game with my second run: 3:29:00; it's the same seed so i still have some iron issues, i did the big killing spree much faster and not that thoroughly, but it's lit up, i've concentrated on the areas where my expansions will go. Because i had about 8 stacks of unused green modules last time, i've set the goal for them 6 stacks lower, i don't have that many home miners that work anyway by that time, but i will try to place all of them into machines this time. I had to deal with a nest with 3 tier two worms, one of them i left alive, is that bad with pollution? I went for the worse oil because i didn't want the big fiasco from last time to happen again and because i couldn't find the better one within ten seconds.

My current problem is Iron is always used up. There's never enough to saturate a belt let alone having the iron buffer filled. Should I just expand for more mining or wait for efficiency modules first?

Most starter iron patches should be big enough to fit 30 active miners for quite a while, try packing your miners closer togetehr if you're not already, or try scouting for a map where the iron ore patch is on the larger/richer side and doesn't overlap with other ore patches so it fits more miners? If you expand early/without efficiency modules, you probably need some defenses at the iron outpost.

@@MichaelHendriks Thanks for the tip! I opt to just patiently wait for enough efficiency modules for the necessities and then wait for 4 stacks of efficiency modules then search for one iron expansion, turns out it didn't lose much time.
