I conducted an experiment and came up with different results. I had two brand new tissue boxes. I emptied one and kept the other filled. I had them slide down the same slope and found out that the empty box consistently reached the bottom first.

So, Why flattening a car tire in a snowy or icy road, can help drivers to drive safely?
@AyushRaj-le2rd Жыл бұрын
It help to prevent slip in ice ,more friction help to prevent slip

Why then rolling friction is less than sliding friction
@zedisdagoat Жыл бұрын
yes why
@Wellwtv3 жыл бұрын
So if low surface area is in contact, higher the pressure and the bonding between the molecules . So it should have higher friction than the more surface area right. Does the higher surface area having more interlocking particles cancels these out the high molecular bond of the lower surface area object?

Then, why for example Formula 1 cars have very wide tires, if bigger surface area between road and tire doesn't increase friction?
@r20de202 жыл бұрын
Because wider tires provide better load distribution. It's easier to stay balanced on feet rather than, i dunno, heels. It's easier to hang on the bar with 2 arms than with 1. Usually trucks have additional pairs of tires, which are used, when the load is heavier. Because of better load distribution, tires wear less... so basically they can use them longer.

Lets imagine tyres with spikes. Narrower tyres would have less spikes stabed into ground, while wider tyres would have more. With big enough force you could break the spikes from narrower tyres, while wider tyres could sustain bigger force without breaking the spikes. As @Eight said you have better load distribution with much less wear and much more durability!

Why is sliding friction more thann rolling friction then
@XMostaxX11 ай бұрын
Perfect rollings involves 0 friction, because neither of the two surfaces rubs against the other. Life is not perfect and some slip is present, but it is only "some", so the friction during rolling is still smaller.

2:30 But sir when the area of contact decrease the pressure increases right? So there is definitely pressure difference between the cuboid and square isn't it? Still how is the friction same?

Bhai wo surface area badh nai sai friction bada per pressure ghat gya toh normal ghat gya jissai friction kam hoga toh same rahiga

Sir if we take spherical shape then
@XMostaxX11 ай бұрын
Then the object starts rolling and that's a completely different situation.
