I did that exact same work decades ago, just for a few days, it was demanding. The most impressive moment is they put the cables into extreme tension before pouring the concrete. Warning lights all over the place and loud horns. Everybody's going in worker's emplacements with thick steel doors, in case of a cable snapping. It's no joke.

they had laid out cables on friday I accidentally nicked one with a welding stinger over the weekend. I told them about it and they pulled it anyway. It held till the machine was 250' 1/2 way down then it snapped and got balled up in the machine. lmao

I've seen a rope go through a the rear and front windshield of a 4x4, let alone a steel cable! I struggle to imagine the damage a snapping steel cable could cause.

Many horrendous accidents have occurred when tow ropes, tow cables or tow chains snap on vehicles. The stored energy is immense and God help anyone that gets caught in the whiplash.

Quick explaination on curing: Concrete is mixed with water to trigger the creation of crystals between the particles in the concrete which cause it to get hard. Thus, the wetter the concrete, the better it cures. That's also why they cover the slabs with blankets, so they don't dry out. And that's also the reason why you can actually build under-water structures in-place with concrete. Interestingly enough, concrete also binds the water permanently. So when you see concrete, it's actually soaked in water, even though it is dry.

Well... I'm gonna try: Concrete doesn't need to dry (dry = less water ) to make it harden. It's a chemical reaction that makes it hard and strong. The faster it dries, the more brittle it becomes and it will crack easily. By covering the concrete they trap moisture inside. The moisture keeps the structure if the concrete molecules about same as when poured, so they won't retract and get smaller when curing, minimizing the chance of cracking. hot steam is a great way to cure concrete. They technicly could pump that to the cavities of those long beams, but they are so long that they would need a lot of input for it and thus poking it full of holes, and still they would need to cover it. feel free to correct me. I have but a 10 years of experience of small concrete pours, and I like chemistry, but never really studied it. So I might be completely wrong.

This is close. I have worked in a factory like this one, although it wasn't as automated nor brightly lit (they should change that). It is correct that concrete doesn't dry, it cures. Water is a key ingredient in the chemical reaction and if the mixture dries before it cures, it is weaker. This mixture is so stiff, it needs every ounce of water it can get to complete the reaction. @FactoryMonster if you see this, you can probably use this comment and the above one to translate what you wrote in Korean. Hot steam would be one way to speed along the reaction but that seems like it would use a lot of energy and it would also cause the water on the outside of the slabs to evaporate. When I tested samples of concrete for strength we submerged them in water.

The covering keeps the concrete from drying out. Water is necessary for concrete to cure. Parts that dry out aren't properly cured.
