Hi, I'm from Victoria, australia and I own a rainbow lorikeet and they are gorgeous. She is one noisy bird but she can be really sweet. They are all over Australia they aren't just in Syndey. My rainbow lorikeet lets me pat her and she always says hi to me every morning I get up or if I had a shower and I come down the hall. she says hi or hello. My rainbow lorikeet is a pain in the backside and goes on these loud squaring matches in the house and every time someone is cooking. Her name is Tweety and she is about 2-3 years old and she is beautiful. They can eat any sort of Fresh Fruit, such as Apples, pears, strawberries, grapes, melon, peaches and cherries are preferred. Try to avoid acidic fruits like orange, lemon, tangerine and mandarin as these may upset their stomach. Pollen and nectar - their favourite foods are nectar and pollen from native flowers such as grevilleas, bottlebrushes and banksias. Nectar gives them energy, and pollen provides protein for healthy feathers. They also feed on fruits and small insects. As some people may think that they can eat Seeds. They do not eat seeds, Because it can ruin their tongues and their stomachs. And it is harder for them to digest it. instead, they consume nectar, pollen, fruit and vegetables. I have heard some people say that they can eat anything, But that is not the case. There are foods that are poisonous to them. such as: - onions and garlic. -avocados -mushrooms -apple seeds. -Peppers -potatoes -eggplant -tomatoes -Eucalyptus spray/essential oils Another thing is that if a rainbow lorikeet has a mirror in their cage they can become more aggressive and territorial, so the best thing to do is to take that out and swap it for a lot of toys with bells and things to hang off the top of the cage with.

My one is smart as it was my partners as she passed away and i got him he talks a lot. Calls out “where’s pat , and mimics my voice as getdown , and where is he. Even coughs like a human. I got it whistling waltzing Matilda. People don’t relise how smart they are. I picked him up near the kerb with ants on him washed him and he came good but with a broken wing. Once he came good he was up under my chin only young. But we trained him well. They need attention and need to talk to them a lot. He used to hear the kids fighting, and yells out knock it off. F..k off. Some times yells when talking on the phone. Always let out for an hour every day .

Is it bad if you feed a lorikeet to much apples

Yea cause the sugar isn't good for them if they're pets as they're not active enough

@@bianciiieeegaming You realise they eat nectar, which is just sucrose (sugar)?? Apple are fine for them - as are most fruit and vegetables.

Seeds etc is bad for them it ruins their tongue ,they have a unique tongue to collect nectar and pollen etc fruit is fine just they only love sweet fruit ,apples,mango,peaches ,strawberries etc ,jam and honey they go nuts for Bread and starch type food not good for them
