A maryland history buff here, youre correct on the nickname of maryland lol. But if you want to know without looking it up, old line state refers to the 1st maryland from the american revolution. They were a regiment of regulars who made a brave stand in brooklyn losing a huge number of men. About 400 men charged (multiple times) a british forcr of more than 5 times their size to delay them and allow Washingtons army time to retreat. They were successful but at grave cost (~400 casualties)

Another Iowa fun fact: Grant Wood, the painter of the American Gothic, was from Anamosa Iowa. Iowa was also home to Elijah Wood and Ashton Kutcher. And yes, there is corn everywhere. My backyard is a cornfield.
