Quick story: My step father was a psychotic drug addict criminal who always noted where the exits were. Between running from the police or someone he robbed seeing him, he always knew where to exit quickly. That said, that behavior rubbed off on me growing up and I note where the exits are in crowded public spaces as well as paying attention or having situational awareness. That served me well in my 20s because i was in a bar/restaurant where a gang style shootout took place and I saw it coming from the parking lot and was out the other side by the time it started.

Agree with most of it but as an avgeek, planes rarely crash (many more people die in car accidents than plane crashes), and when they do it is not usually fatal. If it is, who dies is related to how the plane crashes. Depending on the position the plane is in, the back may actually be worse Ex. Asiana flight 214. If you’re really that paranoid about where to sit in the plane, the middle will probably be the best.

To clear up the confusion about the “3 hours without shelter” it all depends on conditions. On a cool summer you can survive all summer long. In a blizzard at -35° Fahrenheit (-37.2° Celsius) temperatures maybe 7 minutes. If you see money on the ground just pick it up. Terrorist attacks are very unlikely.

grease fires should not be put out with water, ever. the water makes the already bad situation worse. the fire increases and anyone near will pretty much get off with pretty bad burns. turn off the heat, call emergency services, keep a lid on the pan/pot, and have a fire extinguisher ready.

First of all, don't open windows or doors when your car is sinking in water, do not immediately open it, water pressure will keep the door shut and by the time your window is half way open, the power to your car is most likely cut short and now you're in a car with no way out that is filling with water. Sink, the air in your car can last you plenty of time to evacuate depending on how many people. After your car has settled, open the door which should no longer have the water pressure pressing it and you should make sure everyone can get out through their door, once one door is opened, the rest of the doors won't matter if their opened or not. Once everyone is out, swim up, parallel to the orientation of the car, this isn't very necessary but in the small case your car is on a shifty flat, swimming parallel will negate most chances of you disturbing it because you are swimming with it and not shifting the water against it. Assuming it's unfamiliar water, get out as soon as possible, you never know what may be lurking under the ripples. And trust me, every body of water in the world has at least 1 carnivore that will try and run a faze with you. So don't listen to that one about the car
