I thought I knew many behind-the-scene tid bits about the show, but I learned even more from your video. The story about Eva thinking that feathers came from pillows nearly had me in stitches! REALLY? She WAS the perfect Lisa Douglas. It was the timing on the show that was key....the persistent interruptions of poor Oliver from the rest of the cast definitely would've left little room for ad-lib, all right. Eddie Albert was always one of my favorite actors, both on screen...and off. An all around terrific guy! I believe he lived to be 99 y/o....and who can forget the greatest TV theme song of all time? The second best? The Addams Family, of course! THANK YOU Vic Mizzy! A re-do of the series? I'd be game for that, but it's awfully hard to improve, or even equal, perfection.

Enjoyed how the creators of Green Acres and The Beverly Hillbillies provided excellent backstories in the first episodes of each show. (like Oliver's crop report during an aerial bombing run during the war) As for the location of Hooterville, in an early episode of Petticoat Junction, a C&FW Railroad wall map including their Hooterville line was displayed in a boardroom scene. The rivers of the mid-west were evident. Based on their state lines, it must have been a parallel universe because such a charming valley with Hooterville and Pixley and its unique characters could not exist anyplace else. ... or maybe the C&FW wall map was drawn by Arnold Ziffel as a school project.

The character of Mr. Haney was not based on Elvis Presley's manager. It was based on a trotting racehorse trainer named Charlie Norway who raced horses at Hollywood Park long before I was born. Back then, the track had two racing seasons per year. One for thoroughbred racing and another for harness racing. I know this because I wrote Charlie's obituary when he died around 2010. Prior to his passing, when he was old and sick, I took over training his remaining horses. Jay Sommers loved horse racing overall, but, like a great many Hollywood people of the time, he had a penchant for harness racing. Through his interest, he got to know many of the people in the harness racing industry -- mainly the wheeling and dealing Charlie Norway. Charlie was a way worse huckster than Mr. Haney, but loveable nonetheless. The name Mr. Haney comes from an old harness racing story about a slow horse named Mr. Haney who Charlie Norway bought and sold about 20 times. Once, he sold 500% of Mr. Haney because he knew the horse would never win a purse that would need to be distributed. Charlie was being paid to train Mr. Haney by 5 people, each of whom thought they owned the entire horse. Charlie told me that training the horse was easy but keeping his owners from meeting each other was a full time job. That is why Jay Sommers named the character Mr. Haney. BTW - Charlie's estate still owes me $5,000 -- I'll never see it. :) You can verify me on IMDB ( David-Damien Mattia).

Right as you spoke about "exactly where Hooterville is" you showed a scene where they had dressed a mountain range in the background through the window. Then you said "300 miles from Chicago" but I still cannot think of a place even directly West of Chicago that would provide a view of a distant mountain range. And the Smokeys do not appear as a big range of mountains from a distance much either, so East is an unlikely direction. 300 mi West of Chicago one suppose would be Kansas or Wyoming or Iowa or Missouri, so maybe they are visible from that far. I lived in Denver for a spell, but am not sure from how far East the range is visible.

A few corrections are warranted here: People in the radio show years did not listen to their "stereo" for entertainment. Since the stereo technology didn't happen for commercial use until 1958 they had to settle for listening on their old timey one speaker radios. In 1971 when CBS's "rural purge" occurred it did not include the Andy Griffith Show. That show ended it's run in 1968. You are referring to Mayberry RFD, a spin-off of the Andy Griffith Show. The Green Acres reunion movie was in 1990, not 1980.

That's one of the many beauties of Green Acres. EVERY character was absolutely fantastic, and each actor who played them fit the bill perfectly. Impossible for me to pick out a favorite episode. I have the entire DVD set and have watched each one over and over; and I intend to continue to do so. NONE of them disappoint.

I love this show! It was absurdist comedy done brilliantly. It's main theme to me was that although it was Oliver's dream to buy a farm and live in the country, he never fit in there. Lisa, who wanted to stay in New York, seemed quite at home with the bizarre residents in Hooterville. She got along with everyone, and understood how things worked there, which Oliver never did.

Funny how you recognize things after a half century. That clip at 10:13 was a head gasket that Lisa made when they were trying to drive their harvest of apples to market and the head gasket in the truck they rented from Haney blew, and Oliver wasn't having any success finding a new one. He holds it up and says "No?" and the next scene is them driving the truck down the road.

Here's an idea. If they remake Green Acres. Rather than impose your desire on everybody else. You don't have to watch it.
