I like your method of teaching. I have been off the tools for a very long time. I have never done a fade. I was in the U.S. Navy for awhile. The fade is what we use to call a Marine, High and Tight. In the Thirties, it was called a bowl cut. But I like your technic.

I've just found your channel, i started my level 2 course last year but with Boris locking us down having KZbin tutorials as a learning resource has been invaluable. I've got some work experience in a barber shop lined up for when the shops open up again in April, I've seen so many different methods is this one you'd use in a shop environment?

Good for you for pursuing that career and yes Aaron I use this method all the time.

Hi! One of the better fade video’s I’ve found on KZbin. Thank you. Now I’m a hairstylist aswell. I am 25 y/o and have 8 years experience. I can do a fade like this in probably 40/45 minutes but my employer has a strict guideline of 20 minutes p. male customer. Now how long does it take you to do fades like these? Just wondering to have some comparison. I’m aware of the fact that the time guidelines from employers within time totally depend on pricing. Just curious!
@theoneminutebarber3 жыл бұрын
Shannen thanks for watching my videos and glad you find them useful. I would spend 40 mins on this cut. These are my timings 30 mins for scissors cuts/fades/short back and sides 40 mins for skin fades Then I add 10 mins for a beard. I have worked in a high intensity environment in the past where we put out as many haircuts as possible as quick as possible. I'm fortunate now I have a good clientele who are happy to pay me to spend longer on their hair. But it's finding the balance. I changed to longer timings and higher price which cost me some clients initially. Over time I had space which I could fill with the clients I was really looking for.
@KR-pp7wp Жыл бұрын
I think that is the biggest downfall working in a Salon/Barber. Time constraints can really compromise your haircuts...it's not a 'one size fits all' timeframe. Very disheartening .

im cutting for only ayear now.. n i found out the same process with my experience watch the blade move up create shape that u want.. more faster than doing those overcomb stuff and go back to the tables n change lots of guard that waste too much time..we still have to over comb tough for finishing touch... watch the blade eat the hair move slowly to the shape u want..dont push it inward..change guard if necessary thats the trick..some barber just push ineard even with lever open but better if u make it scope alittle in every guard even lever open.. 👌

What is the redness on the nape of their necks? I've been seeing it with skinfades especially! I clean my tools so I'm not sure.
@theoneminutebarber Жыл бұрын
This is often nothing to worry about. Many people react to metal on skin and it generally relaxes by the end of the haircut or certainly within 30 mins of a haircut. But you do need to be careful that the blade is aligned correctly as if it is very harsh or there is spots of blood then it is a misaligned blade.

If doing a high fade, I get that the initial bald line will be higher, but can’t quite get my head around with how you would gradually go higher, and have room to get all your lines in, would you still go in the same grade order and 2-3mm up each time? But then would you reach the parietal ridge area soon and how would you blend into that when the final grade of the fade will be longer than the low fade method you’ve shown here? Hope that makes sense 😂 Thank you
@theoneminutebarber Жыл бұрын
It does make sense, In my opionion if you go above the parietal ridge with the bald line, you are asking for trouble. No matter how high it is, my bald line doesnt go above the parietal ridge. you can do a high fade from there, just stretch it out if you can.
@RobWardley Жыл бұрын
Thank you, so even with a high fade you would still follow the order or grades you showed here and would that mean you may only get up to say the one guard when reaching the parietal ridge rather than the 1.5 you did here? If so- then what would you do if the hair sort of hangs over like a wedge? Again- sorry if that sounds complicated lol

Terrific vid and cut and attention to detail Michael thank you. I am trying to improve the fade on my hair I use size 6-8 combs as it is longer. How often do you need to change the blade on the clippers and do you oil them each time please?
@theoneminutebarber4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Louise, I use clippercide after every cut. It lubricates the blade and cleans it. It's kind of an all in one. I change the blade only if I break it. for instance by dropping it. That said I found I was going through a lot of T outliner blades when they first came on the market. The rotating pin inside kept rounding out the plastic casing on the blade due to heat ( which stopped the blade moving fully). However I solved this by putting a small amount of silicone grease on the pin which I got from a car shop. That kept the plastic cool and I've not had to buy extra blades since.
@louisep51784 жыл бұрын
@@theoneminutebarber Amazing thank you so much for the information Michael not sure if I can say which clippers I use on here but they are a good make but plastic and the blade feels a little blunt unless that is what they are supposed to be like; takes a few attempts to cut my hair not a lot comes off so I will add the oil after each cut and take your advice 👍

Do you have your wahl clippers zero gapped? I can do a decent fade now after cutting my own hair since March but always struggle to get the trimmer stubble line to blend to my clippers closed 😕 I just don’t want to risk getting my clippers blade wonky
@theoneminutebarber3 жыл бұрын
Getting the line to disappear from the foil to the clipper needs a zero gapped blade. You've just given me a plan for my next video. I always go from the foil shaver to the Andis t-outliner. The t outliner doesn't need zero gapped, the blades are so close just out of the box. My Wahl senior is just a baw hair back from zero gapped but works perfect. It's important though that whatever machine you use has a fade blade fitted. Wahl and Andis sell a variety of blades for their machines online
@michaelkendall79143 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply 👍 like I say I just don’t want to move the blades and not screw them in correctly...but look forward to the next video which I’m sure will explain what you’ve said in great detail visually too! Glad I inadvertently gave you some inspiration

How do you decide how far to take your bald line up around the back of the head? Thank you
@theoneminutebarber Жыл бұрын
Thats a great question. I ask the client how they want the fade, thats my first clue. But this is really important, the higher you go up with the bald line, the less space you will have to make a fade effect, so the lower the easier it's going to be. If you go above the ocipital bone you will have to fade higher and ultimately you then need some of the hair from the top to be removed that you maybe wanted to keep.

Using the half guard and refining-When you say “as long as you don’t go higher than the length of the grade that your using” Wasn’t entirely sure what that meant. Please can you just explain this a bit more! Thank you.
@theoneminutebarber Жыл бұрын
Sure, the blend line gets progressively higher in the haircut using longer and longer grades. It’s what’s known as a graduation. If you refine, you can only refine as high as you went with the grade you are refining with. If you go higher than the half guard line you run the risk of making a hole in the denser hair higher up.

i always use a rotary shaver to start my fade it causes no lines some foil shavers are very rough especially on younger clients so whatever your technique is its unfair to say dont use this or that everybody works different i use the braun series 5 which blows every so called barbers foil out the window its smooth as a babies arse my clients love it as its super smooth with no stubble and again leaves no harsh lines to remove. i also use a cheap ten pound rotary foil from asda to start the balding out and again my clients feel its vert comfertable you should try it
