Trailer for the 1980 film "Fade To Black". A shy, lonely, film geek goes on a killing spree against those who bully and browbeat him, while at the same time, he stalks his idol; a Marilyn Monroe look-alike.

I saw it ONE time only when I was like 12 or 13 and it was on a UHF channel in Chicago. This would have been like 1981 or 82. But the character was so powerful in his psychosis that I remembered him. I didn't remember the character name or the actor's name until literally YESTERDAY, when someone posted the movie poster for this on a 70s-80s throwback group page. But I only remembered that what got me to watch the movie in the first place was that the actor was someone I had seen in another movie and liked (Breaking Away) but I couldn't remember that either and actually looked under Mark Hamil's (Star Wars) movie listings. It was crazy. So I've been trying to see this movie again, thinking about it, trying to name actors who I thought were in it with no luck. I finally found it online last night and watched it right away and it was BETTER than I remembered. So yeah, I guess you could call it the power of a character portrayal.

This is another reason why nothing will ever top70s- 80s slasher films. I loved and grew up in this era. I remember watching this on The Movie Channel in the 80s. I miss this genre. Got killed off by the serial killer

Great psychological horror film, Eric is so crazy it gave me chills watching him. What happens when an abused "nobody" snaps? Some truly nasty payback. Favorite scenes are the barbershop gunning, and the Dracula scene, pitch-perfect. Forget Voorhees or Myers, this guy is a walking freak show.

I loved the alleyway duel scene that actually was a terrifying sight to see him in a kids costume.. Jepp you are not alone im pretty soure they how made the joker took some inspiration from fade to black but also taxi driver from 1976 and king of comedy 1982 and thats not a bad thing. I can actually see joker take place in the fade to black universe but then again joker takes place in 1981 so yeah.🤡

You're entitled to that opinion and I'm sure you're not alone. That 'lameness' you feel is probably a quality of 'cheesiness' of the pulpy horror genre that makes it appealing to many on a cult level. Someone should make a list of the Greatest Lame Films of 1980 and start with this.
