The Federal Agencies Digital Guidelines Initiative (FADGI) is a collaborative effort by federal agencies to articulate a common sustainable set of technical guidelines, methods, and practices for digitized and born digital historical, archival and cultural content. One of the guidelines drafted by the Still Image Working Group, titled, “Technical Guidelines for the Still Image Digitization of Cultural Heritage Materials,” outlines best practices for digitizing items such as rare manuscripts, maps, newspapers, photographic prints and negatives, and other material types. The FADGI Still Image Video Series aims to make information in the Technical Guidelines accessible to a wide audience who is interested in learning about, deepening their understanding of, or applying the Technical Guidelines in their own work. The first video in the series covers five fundamental parts of camera-based workstation in cultural heritage imaging: cameras, lenses, lighting, copy stands, and image quality targets.
