FAFSA & CSS PROFILE: A Step-By-Step Guide with Tips & Reminders

I'm not sure if anyone has this issue but in the parents demographics section, the first name initial textbox is not required. So we left it out. After submission, it came back stating the name is not matching the Social Security Admin office. My guess is that the first name initial field is blank and they couldn't match it up. That is a major flaw in the system. Now we have to wait for the printed copy of the SAR to be sent back ( 2-3 weeks), make corrections and sent it back (2-3) weeks. Someone needs to fix the system.

Do we establish the cSS profile with custodial parent name or STUDENT name?

You can use your student's College Board account. If you want to create a separate parent account you can do that as well.

I filled in all details in my currency, but the dollar sign is showing up now in every section. Can you please help what to do? Do I need to submit income tax, and real estate documents in dollars?

The CSS profile will open in October of 2023. You'll need to fill it out then to submit for the 2024-2025 school year.

What if both of my parents are deceased. And I am 38 yrs old applying for financial aid.
