Reading books like this, 1984 and brave new world in 2022 is heartbreaking because we are entering a dystopian world which mirrors different aspects from each book

Technically, "Lord of the Flies" isn't a dystopian novel, but considering the subject matter of the story, I would be inclined to include it in your list of heartbreaking books like this one. Destruction of innocence seems to me to be a big part of all four stories. The psychological oppression of "1984" the sexualization of children by society in "Brave New World" then there's the character of Clarisse in "F 451" who really unintentionally shows Montag the existential crisis he's been battling his whole life without even realizing it. We see similar character types in "Lord of the Flies" as well as an inward societal collapse and desecration and perversion of noble ideals once held true. The sad thing is, I'm 39, and I never read any of these books in any of my grades in school, I read them on my own for fun. Makes me worried about how much more is gonna get lost.

It is very disturbing to see how many parallels there are in these novels and our society. I myself haven't read any of these books in school, and I've been here for about 28 years. I hope things turn around soon for the sake of society

It wasn't a cop car that tried to hit him I thought it was a group of kids in their car, books weren't banned by the government they were originally banned by the people, anything thought provoking was banned because if something is thought-provoking it can and will lead to unhappiness and being happy is the most important thing in life in their world, the entire book keeps referencing that we need to shine a mirror on ourselves to see the problems we are making for ourselves

Loved the book and enjoyed this summary as I review my thoughts and notes on the book. I can see in comments here that some people don't like the book because they have to read it as a school assignment. I felt the same way about books I had to read in school. Fortunately, I've read Fahrenheit 451 because I chose to, and I'm glad I did.

@@JashXD Insult. The whole book is trying to tell you about how instant-gratifications, summaries, plot shortenings lead to a decay of society, leaving no space for thinking and free will. It's sad that the authors of this video MISSED the main point of the novel.

Was just thinking this, I enjoy synopsis videos after reading a book to ensure I haven't missed anything or misinterpreted what the author is trying to say. But this comment is definitely warranted.

A book is piece of art, to be interpreted, and this video, a perspective. Unless this video was made with malintent to deceive, which it doesn't appear to be the case, then we can only gain from it. Along with the video, which someone took the time out of their day to decorate and curate, we can learn in expedited fashion as images and audio brings rich information where text may be limited.
@moxemelob
@moxemelob 2 жыл бұрын
@@trst361 this video isn't a perspective, author doesn't add anythinv new to it. its a deliberate shortening of the piece, which sabotages the book itself. if you read the book you know it stood exactly against that.

I know the two are unrelated narratively, but I always felt like it was the case that Fahrenheit 451 is what led to 1984. There is hope towards the end of 451, but what if instead of a better world rising from the ashes of the old, it was replaced with something worse? What if the legacy of turning away knowledge was just given a new coat of paint and given a different name?

I understand the themes and messages of this book, but it seems (at times) vapid and hypocritical. As if all films are inherently incapable of expressing an original thought, or as if all books are automatically filled to the brim with important, valuable life lessons and singular revelations (hint, many aren't, and you'll find a plethora of unoriginal, uninspired books as well) simple due to their respective media. Rather heavy-handed to me, but okay.
@Fede_uyz
@Fede_uyz Жыл бұрын
this is not at all the message. Books are not revealed for being correct and important, but for being a medium through which one can know of times past, read of hypothetical worlds, think about dangerous concepts, and so on. tv is not portrayed as evil because it's all superfluous, but because it's used to dumb down the people. The book talks about how everything is fast and short content targeted to make you forget about thinking (like we do with algorithmz today) marketing and ads are everywhere and the average person never dares to go against the established thought presented by the media. you fully missed the point my dude
