This may sound boring, but could you perhaps make them react to Gundam? Either Gundam 00 or Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans. Here's two separate explanations how they work. Gundam 00 (in season 1) is basically the whole world is in an arms race with each other so they make weapons of war, but what they don't expect is a secret faction that had advanced tech and their weapons are meant for peace called Celestial Being. Celestial Being's mission is to end all wars of humanity and bring them to a unification (basically an alliance) which they did in the end of season 1. But it all starts another war in season 2 and stuff happens there. For Iron Blooded Orphans, it's a universe where mars has been colonized but is poorly maintained as everyone in space is neglected and pushed aside by the people of earth (sort of like a political inequality). There was a war back then called the "Calamity War" but all that happened many years ago and it is important to mention because that's when the gundams were first created. The plot behind season 1 is that the protagonist, Mikazuki, a boy with spectacular performance in combat with machines is sent on a mission with his comrades to protect Kudelia, a person of high authority and would be the one to also change the sufferable fate of mars and the people in space into more equal terms. But there's a large organization called Gjallarhorn (Gyallarhorn for pronounciation) which want Kudelia to be silenced. Don't mistake Gjallarhorn to be the bad guys even tho they are depicted like that but in reality Gjallarhorn just wants order although at the late part of season 1, they did something that would set a bad image for their side. Oh dang I explained a lot ;-; Sorry if I typed in too much, gundam is serious with their lore and it's difficult to shorten it to an understandable length without taking away the important stuff.
