“45 seconds” - Stan, you made me howl. Can you say “awkward “? Dude knew something was wrong when he started stammering and losing concentration (and the sales pitch). I sure hope they figure the battery thing out, because this would be very useful indoors with low operating noise and zero emissions.

Dude said it was a prototype that they're using to work bugs out for the final product. I'm not a fan of it being fully electric, I'd still like to see something like this with a diesel genset that runs the electric drive motors like the CAT D6XE. Heck, something like that in a heavy duty ASV forestry CTL would be cool. Electric motors were made to be punished and ran continually so I can see the benefits, I'm just not on board with battery power. One application I've heard people say something like this Bobcat would be ideal for is indoor job sites or places in enclosed spaces like bulk cargo ships where they can be lowered down to move the last bit of product to the conveyors or something like that.

But skid steers are mostly for running hydraulic attachments. They are essentially power packs

I think that’s pretty cool actually especially that you have no fluids. I literally do not care what makes things move as long as they can do the job and be cost effective. So if they get the bugs out of it and it doesn’t cost $150k that bobcat would be pretty cool. Btw 45 seconds😂

I have been trying to think of the name but some company already makes or made, an electric skid steer. It was corded IRC. It was made to use indoors. I can not remember where it was I saw it. It has been ten years ago or more. Cordless hand tools have been a game changer but we just do not have the battery tech at this moment in time to make EV cars, trucks and equipment be very practical.

TBH electric equipment like this isn’t ever going to replace diesel or other fossil fuel based equipment, at least not in our lifetimes. However, it will have a market, such as when work needs done indoors or an area where emissions, fluids, and/or noise are a concern.

Yeah Stanley I think I'm on the same page in 45 seconds you can burn up and die when the battery is decide to blow up like Tesla. especially if the machine is stopped like it was and the door won't open because it won't fully open due to the support tube across the hoist arms
@danielmoore6507

Good point , most skid steers I run have an emergency escape window behind the operators head. .. you hope you never have to use it but caterpillar is the same way! If it cuts out with the boom up at all you can't open the door . Sad thing is most of my operator buddies arnt fitting out that window even if their life depends on it

It shouldn be that hard of a job to run a hydropump on the maschine at the same time. Only that your battery life will go from 6-7 hours down to maybe 2 befor you need a recharge. Then you can wait 16 hours befor your can run 2 hours again. Unless you can get a tesla charger for it so it can charge up to 80 in about 1 hour its not realistic with this runtime at all.

"Calibration" of what ? Unless you swap parts for others proprietary parts with different internal values (resistance,impedance,serial numbers in chips etc...) ,computers don't have to calibrate while the machine is running. The computers already have in their memories all those values from the assembly line. I suspect more like a memory dump,or tele transmission to their headquarters of all what you did with your machine,so they can sell datas to brokers,or simply study your habits for marketing and cheapen on specific components. You don't need preventative maintenance on those machines,wich are supposed to be (and are) way simpler than combustion engines ones. You can detect pressure or flow loss,but that mean that a bunch of sensors are added to it ,and surely enough,limitations of the machine will occurs from their side via GPS or something to not engage their warranty unless you go at the dealer.

Honestly, an electric skid steer or excavator is one of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard. So I'm using this to work on a new home build that doesn't have utilities run yet, how do I charge it...? You don't? Or use a generator? I'd rather just use a diesel.

They are meant for indoor job sites or enclosed spaces where you have enough space to maneuver the machine around. I think electric equipment is incredibly expensive and complex when in reality the pollution emitted from today’s Earth moving equipment is far less than other sources such as jetliners, trains,cars,trucks and power plants. Add: The amount of pollution required to build this unit and replace the batteries in for five years far exceeds the pollution emitted by cleanburning Diesel engine. I’m certain that these manufactures are being paid by the government and that is the only reason they’re doing this it’s financially it doesn’t make sense.
