When I was a teen, one year, my stepdad asked me if I'd rather have a drum set (I was taking lessons) or a new iPod...I said drumset (duh), and the whole month he was hyping me up for drums, saying things like "You better pay attention at your drum lessons" Christmas day comes, and I'm more excited than ever before. He puts a blindfold over my eyes, guides me to a stool, and hands me 2 drumsticks before telling me to remove the blindfold. Sitting in front of me on a table was an Ipod... And then when I didn't act excited, I was grounded and sent to my room for the rest of the night w/o dinner for "being ungrateful" I was so heartbroken and confused why he would do that. The thing is, I would have been happy with just the iPod if there was never any mention of getting drums!

All the people being like “it’s just a prank, the kids are spoiled” yes that may be true … but the parents FILM it and upload their reaction on social media for the entire world to see. It’s really mean and nasty. Thank God I grew up when I did, when social media was not a thing. My uncle and grandpa had a video camera that produced a large library of home videos, so that was enough. It’s not about the gift. It’s about the public embarrassment, from what should be a private moment.

As a kid who's been "pranked" by her toxic stepmom with a gift she wanted for Christmas, only to find it empty (she had hidden the game in a ring box [it was a DS game so the cart is a square aboit the size of a quarter] and put it somewhere else), it's heartbreaking. Among many other reasons, I don't visit her as often as her bio kids do. It's mean and cruel and hurting kids, whether yours or not, is NOT FUNNY and most certainly a form of bullying.

You can't buy your kid a PS5 when clearly, he did not ask for it and expect him to want it. And then get mad because you spent $500 on it. He does not know. You have to think like a kid. And most of these kids that are disappointed with getting things like clothes and not valuing them, is the first sign of you spoiling them and making them entitled. Sure, kids want toys. But as a parent your job is to teach value and appreciation with the things we need in life, not what we want. Kids are never too young to learn life's lessons. But some parents have this ignorant attitude, 'oh they are just kids.' Who thinks that, them or you? Kids only know what they are presented. Just like those parents who start rewarding very young kids with material rewards instead of praise despite the kid not even asking for it. Then as they grow older, they expect it, and then get mad when they don't get it. Stop treating your kids the way you feel because it makes you "feel" better. You have to think how they think. Kids will value the simple things in life if you do. But if you teach them that everything they do in life needs a reward, then they grow up expecting it.

People who think it's funny to make fun of their children like that at Christmas and then laugh at their disappointment don't deserve to be called parents. I would have been absolutely delighted with a gift like that as a child.
@tommoncrieff1154Ай бұрын
So heartened to see many agree with my reaction, which is how hurtful is it for kids to get all excited opening a dreamed of gift only to find it’s a prank to go on their parents social media? I hope the real gift was coming next, we just didn’t get to see it. Some of these kids’ lives will be blighted, a small child doesn’t have the emotional development not to be affected. Glad others agree, I was beginning to think is it only me that doesn’t think this is funny!

Haha, classic kitten move! It’s like they have a radar for the most forbidden spots, especially when it comes to Christmas trees! 😆 I bet he thought, "The tree is mine now!" Did he cause any chaos, or was it just an innocent little moment of mischief?

The kids Xmas-gift pranks really isn’t funny. It’s not like they will be damaged for life, but for excited kids looking so forward to the perfect gift and then being embarrassed or disappointed just isn’t what Xmas is about. Makes one wonder what kind of sense humors these parents have.

Pranking children and filming it is shameful. Putting it on KZbin is unforgivable. I’m a psychotherapist, unfortunately these poor excuses for parents keep my office open. It’s hard to imagine how deeply this behavior has permanently harmed these children. This will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Shame on all of you.

Don't prank the kids into thinking it's something they wanted and then have the boxes filled with something else. That's very cruel. It's one thing to give a gag gift, but those fake gifts with the kids in the videos was downright mean.

None of these parents are awful. It ain’t about the gifts. Also, kids need to experience disappointment early in life to understand that they won’t always get what they want. Kinda important stuff.

@@hitchensfollower6966 Sure, the parents totally do that to teach their kids a valuable lesson. It's not for cheap Internet points at the expense of the children.
@susjf8644Ай бұрын
@@hitchensfollower6966the disappointment should be getting another thing, but without the silly prank. They should be taught beforehand that they may not get all what they wish. As easy as teaching them that Santa claus and the Three Wise Men, bring what they can and that they should be grateful. Children are able to understand this, since very small. I learned it that way and my daughters too. You take it very natural, normal.
