University of Sydney Political Scientist Professor Simon Jackman discusses how the failed assassination of former US president Donald Trump will affect the 2024 presidential election.
“This is an enormous political opportunity, to be hardheaded about it, for the Republican Party and for Donald Trump,” he told Sky News Australia.
"How he plays this moment, the language of retribution that has been a hallmark of his campaign of a return to the presidency … but I think we are at a real crossroads on how Republicans, in the first instance in the next 96 hours, how they choose to talk about the event."
