Hey Richard, my monitor has taught me to stay in 1st gear at biting point when waiting to move off, but here you are saying this would be marked as a fault, as it would damage the clutch. Is it possible that some cars don't mind the biting point hold? Or is that a mistake on my instructor's part from giving me this bad habit? Would this be marked on the test? Very helpful video as usual!

Why is she resting her left foot under the clutch that must be pretty unsafe and awkward
@nasheeds8218Ай бұрын
Many people do this and im sure i have seen richard do this. However, she definitely doesnt look the most comfortable doing this
@barsorrroАй бұрын
She's a bit shortish, so resting her foot on the designed rest would probably mean she'd have to reach for it -- she'd have to slightly move the entire leg, starting at the hip, rather than just pivot her foot like a person with longer legs and sitting further away would do. There's nothing wrong with having your left foot underneath the pedal, since it's not the brake, and in case of emergency you can brake safely even without pressing the brake -- you will just stall at the end, no problem about that. Having her leg like that probably feels much more comfortable, since the leg is more in line with the rest of the body.

At 26.44, she tries to lift clutch to bite while pressing the brake, on a hill, it can work, but apart from using the handbrake here, the onny other option is to hold the car still with the gas & bite, but if she goes from the brake to the gas, won't the car rollback?
@nasheeds8218Ай бұрын
Well thats what the bite point is for, if she is at the bite point the car could be able to stay still depending on how steep the hill is, but then she should add gas before lifting the clutch off the bite to make it less likely to stall. Alot of new cars have hill hold assist. So as soon as you release the brake, the car will stay give you around three seconds to get the gas, if not it will roll back

I got a question about speed on the test. Let's say you got taken on a 70mph road, could you go 60 in the left lane without a fault. I'm asking cos the car I got rn is at 3.2k rpm at 60 so that's around the speed I go on motorways. If I was to take a test in it, what would happen
@nasheeds8218Ай бұрын
Well you have to demonstrate or at least make them aware that you know its a 70, if its safe to do so you should get as close to 70 as possible. I think you will be alright because alot of the time a car in the left lane will be going 60 anyways and you wont need to overtake them unless theyre going alot less than 70 . Maybe if you held a speed of 62 or so it would show the examiner that you know its not a 60 but also it wont increase the revs too much
@somerandomguywastakenАй бұрын
@@nasheeds8218 yh I drive in the left lane 99% of the time which is around 60 but I've also seen some mock tests where learners were given serious for not hitting the 70 while following slower traffic

What car do you have? I'm going to need to get my first car soon to commute on the motorway to work and I dont want to get a car that's going to be doing very high revs while doing 70. I'm 18 so insurance is expensive on cars that have +100hp...
@somerandomguywastakenАй бұрын
@@Andrei8pa3 don't worry about hitting 70, I was scared at first getting my car knowing 70 is not very mechanically sympathetic to it and then going to motorways. But the left lane of a motorway is always hovering around 55-60. I've done about 2k miles in the last 2 months on motorways alone. As for my car, it's a '01 plate 1.1L fiat seicento proudly with 54bhp🗣️. (It doesn't even have abs). Although I do have to say, 13" wheels feel sort of sketchy at 70+, completely chill at 60 tho
