Great video. It helped a lot and honestly was explained very well. I think it’s the first time Ive seen NMM look achievable in a KZbin tutorial. And focusing on one area really helped me see the results quickly while sketching out the shadows and highlights.

thank you so much! I know i could have painted it a little smoother but i was trying to go slow and steady so it was easy to follow. Treating the sketch almost like a cell shaded comic/anime style colouring book is really the key to nmm and then going back adn creating a smooth blend, or just leave it cell shaded.

What paints would you use for a silver/steel sort of NMM recipe? More Greys slowly leading into whites, and for the shadows more brown, or black?
@FroggyPhDКүн бұрын
@@WushuChicken my go to, is dark reaper to mechanicum grey, to administration grey with a titanium white for super highlights and edges, if you want to add some blue use a watered down pale blue contrast paint, I think there's one called frost something or ice something. Otherwise the swapping the mechanicum with a similar toned blue like thunder hawk would work too but just play around with the colours, doesn't have to be blue etc. But yea my basic silver nmm is dark reaper, mechanicum grey, administratum grey. Steel I would play with adding blue.

@@WushuChicken I will say to avoid using black unless the material is actually black, if you use black for shadows in can make the rest if the mini look washed out. A dark brown would work but I would keep that for more of the yellow/orange metals.

@@FroggyPhD Thanks for such a great reply! would you recommend adding a blue to each paint, or just the brightest ?
@FroggyPhD22 сағат бұрын
@WushuChicken I would add blue as a 2nd midtone or to replace the midtone. If you add it as an extra and have 4 paints so reaper, mech, blue, admin, I would try and keep that blend quite short so it's just a small section of blue so it's still mainly grey

What if I failed NMM too? 🥺
@FroggyPhD3 күн бұрын
Then you are lost... No, it's okay to fail, we aren't perfect at anything the first time. maybe try just doing the sketching all over before tring blenging if it's that you're struggling on. The sketching to get the reflections in the right places in teh most important so you could almost do a cell shaded NMM as practice. With the blending, I didn't really explain it much because I feel like the way people prefer to create gradients is very trial and error, what works for me i.e. canvas style wet blending might not work for you. I will be making a more generalised blending styles video in teh future to cover all teh ones I can think off!

I'm getting a vague feeling that maybe you just don't like to glaze.
