We've all been there. It is amazing how much one can learn by diving competitions. It's such a great way to dive new areas, meet new people and see different fish. I think you may need to spend a session in the shallows shooting at a target. Shoot the gun 100 times and that is more than you'd probably do in a whole season.
@EthanYeo14 жыл бұрын
Haha that’s reassuring! I’m definitely looking forward to competing again now that I sort of know what to expect 😁 Yeah I’ve been spending a lot of timing hunting whiting and mullet in the shallows, and I can assure you Daniel my aim has vastly improved since the competition 😉

@@EthanYeo1 I'd also consider running a single band. I have an 80cm gun I use here with a single 16mm and 6.75mm spear. The thing is like a laser. An 18mm band and 7mm spear used to be my go to setup for a long time on a 120. Shot some big fish on that too, including a 24kg cobia.
@EthanYeo14 жыл бұрын
Yep I’ve been using a single 16mm band for the past month and have been finding it much better than my previous twin 14mm 😁

Mate, you know I love your videos and am a real supporter of yours and I mean this with no disrespect at all, but I think you really need to work on the technical elements of your spearing. You're charging around underwater, not taking the time to relax, settle yourself and most importantly, let the fish come to you. I'm not being arrogant but I'd love it if you had a look at the last video I posted on my channel, it's not an amazingly edited video like yours but just look how relaxed the fish are around me, see how I've waited for them to become comfortable and actually come to me, see how every shot is a stone shot... I can do that as I'm taking my time, I'm not rushing things. I know my breath-hold is solid so I can just relax down there, I use the natural cover, I move when I need to etc, etc. Also, your gun, you're obviously not comfortable with it. Bands unloaded, shooting line not rigged, double handed aiming, excessive recoil. Maybe time for a new one, honestly it's doing you no favours. I use an 82cm gun for most of my dives, I can stone anything I see. I can't remember the last time I missed a shot. If you're hunting small reef fish, you don't need a big gun. For the type of fishing you do, I'd be looking at something around 80cm, reverse trigger mech, single 16mm or double 14mm bands. Happy to recommend specific models if you want. The main thing to do is relax, settle yourself underwater and find a gun you can trust.

Hey thank a lot mate for taking your time to write this comment, I really appreciate it the intention behind it 😁 I’ll definitely check out your video when I get home! Yeah at the time of this video I had only used this gun less than 10 times and was still getting used to the open muzzle as I’d never used one before and really struggled to figure out the shooting line, in hindsight I regret buying this gun, but I’m saving up to buy a smaller pranger gun 👍 Do you have any tips for finding cover at the bottom?

Which vid do u mean
@2freshproductions8864 жыл бұрын
Confused about why you dont wrap your shooting line? It could be the reson you missed so many fish as it causes mussel wrap and can get caught up. Also if you find yourself without a stringer or a catch bag thread you float line through the gills and mouth its just a giant stringer🤷♂️

Been there plenty of times. One of the worst things you can do in a comp is get frustrated. It seems that the more frustrated you get at missing, the more you miss (happens to me anyway), and with time ticking its not easy to lose the frustration other than by hitting fish. I'd definitely get a speed spike so you can string the fish immediately and let it slide back to the float. It saves a lot of precious time in a comp.
@EthanYeo14 жыл бұрын
Haha exactly!! I’m really looking forward to competing again though now that I know what to expect 😁 I also do use a speed spike now 👍

Hey man, nice video, you gotta sit still on the bottom, wait till the fish get comfortable and come in to you and line up a good shot, dont chase the fish, and keep that line wrapped up.
