this is so simple, only three guys to play it, a simple bass line, simple drum beat, no crazy guitar tabs, no extremely fast or high vocals, but its still one of the most beautiful things i've ever heard i listened to this hundreds of times but every single time i come here the existance of such songs stones me

It’s really rare for a drummer to just settle into a beat, and not react to anything going on in the song. It’s almost hypnotic. Another great song like this is breaking the girl by the chili peppers.

That's a good way to describe Failure. Not sad, but something similar... I was also just thinking about it at work today, how a lot of music I like isn't really similar to Failure. I like a lot of stuff with a groove to it... stuff that reaches the soul. Failure doesn't really reach the soul so much as the psyche... which in turn has an effect on the heart, but its not as direct as other music. A thinking man's rock band. (I mean, sure its moody as hell sometimes, so maybe my description doesn't hold up to close scrutiny with every song lol. Also mainly talking about Fantastic Planet and the lack of syncopation... kinda wish they would do more stuff like that. Their new stuff is awesome and heavy, but it has a totally different beat to it. I think Ken even described it once, and I thought yes! That's what I'm picking up!)

Smth abt this song makes me wish I had someone, and I used to cry sometimes listening to this song bc it reminded me so much about this girl that I liked for a very long time and I wasn’t able to ask her out, out of a combination of fear and her own inaccessibility bc of an extended quarantine. I would literally be in TEARS. I got over her eventually, but this song still holds a place in my heart where I feel longing when I hear it. I know this song probably isn’t about love and heartbreak, but that’s how I interpreted it and therefore that’s how it affected me

I met you at a strange time in my life - and you are the love of my life. you reminded me that life is worth living - you are what I couldn't find, and where I break down. thank you so much for giving me purpose again, and for reminding me that life is beautiful. my love for you knows not limits.

Crazy that failure blew up, well deserved though. I got into them in 2002, no one knew who they were and they had already been broken up for years. Imagine actually being aware of them back when they were a band. What a wild journey for a band.

Whoah.. one of the best live performances I have ever seen. Definitely much better than original studio version which was flawless anyways. There is not a single unnecessary note or drum beat.

Wish I could forget it and hear it again for the first time. It makes so much sense when you can really understand the lyrics. “I’ve got no Houston to whine down to” is so fucking relatable. The entire thing gives me chills every time.
