I love the reveal and reactions to it are always great, but the back story dialogue really feels slapped together last minute, could have been so much better.

@@ciaranconlon84 I respectfully disagree. Although it's true that they could've done a lot more to foreshadow it, the entire thing slots together so well when you find out Jack is the Face of Boe, that it just works phenomenally well. The show still has all these unanswered questions that likely not even thinking about at the time, like how Boe knew about the Master. The reveal clears them all up in the viewer's own head in a single wham line of dialogue without any further explanation being needed. Perfect example of how to pull off an amazingly simple, yet brilliant closure to a story arch, without making it needlessly protracted or complicated.

I don't know if you noticed, but Lucy had a black eye toward the end of the episode. She killed the Master because he was abusing her. I guess she was fine with his insanity until it was directed at her.

The thing to remember about the Face of Boe is that when the 9th Doctor meets him, several billion years have passed. Not surprising it caused such a crazy change in Jack, since he did continue aging, if a substantially lower pace than normal. If he had true immortality he wouldn’t have changed.

I'm so glad that you managed to watch the original cut for this episode!! For some reason the Netflix/BBC America version cuts out 7 mins of content like the Master dancing to the Scissor Sisters and Martha's mum trying to shoot him. It makes the episode feel rushed and weirdly paced so I'm glad you saw them scenes.

The show runner always played coy about if Jack was actually the Face of Boe until a little while ago. Apparently the original plan was for Jack to be in A Good Man Goes to War and he loses his head to the headless monks. His debodied head would then go on to become the Face of Boe.

The master clearly had some kind of control over Lucy, she began to try to tell the torchwood lady about him in the last ep “there was a moment when we first met...” but stopped as soon as he entered the room even though she couldn’t see him cause his presence makes her obedient to him, in this ep it’s clearly had a bad effect on her to be under his control for so long as she’s very vacant and confused, she has a black eye at the end so he’s been abusing her and him being weakened and distracted by the doctor at the end probably weakened the control he had on her giving her a moment of clarity so she shot him

When all the humans thought of the same person the telepathic field was generated around the Doctor which gave him temporary control over the field which he used to restore himself and do OP things.

You could literally see your mind breaking and the cogs reforming to try and process what you had just heard. Don't forget to watch the time crash mini episode and oh the Christmas episode you will have loved because it gives an absolute amazing line but also an ear worm. Also the are so many subtle Easter eggs and digs at other shows if you can spot them Season 4 though oh season 4 is golden I just remember the are so many amazing returns and introductions in season 4
