Faire la bise 😗 Slow French

In today's slow French episode, we talk about "Faire la bise," the European custom that requires a "kiss" to say hi to friends and family. How many kisses should you do? Do men also use it to say hi? Is it the same everywhere? Let's talk about it!

My husband's French family can't even agree on the number of kisses. I met his 1/2 sister first, and she did 3 kisses (I did 2). Later, I met his brother and did 3 kisses, and he did 2. This was in the south of France. His friends in the Lyon region all did 2. Very confusing.

Bonjour Dylane! Le thème de la vidéo était une surprise. Personne ne faire la bise aux États-Unis. Il serait un peu étrange pour moi. En général, je serre la main ou j'embrasse (pardon, je ne sais pas l'expression pour "hug" 😔).

Cory c'est marrant mais on n'a pas vraiment de mots pour "hug" en français. Une étreinte c'est trop formel, et une câlin c'est plus intime.

Je suis à l'aise et l'ai fait avec les femmes, mais avec les hommes je serre la main. Ce n'est pas une coutume aux États-Unis sauf avec un membre de la famille (sur les lèvres ou la joue avec les lèvres). D'autre part, de nombreux immigrants viennent vivre ici chaque année avec des coutumes différentes.

En Australie, on fait la bise une fois sur la joue, et c'est seulement pour les amies proches et la famille. Depuis Covid, la plupart des gens évitent de se serrer la main.
