Thank you, for your reply back, I thought I'd go ahead and try it both ways. I'm having a hellish time, tryin to find the fairy cutouts. I did find Tinkerbell so I used a black Sharpie I'll see how that works out. if it doesn't I'm going to be on one heck of a fairy mission.... somebody left a comment in here. fairies don't belong in jars I'm starting to believe that. Hi Lolly! So happy to watch & listen to you. You are very well spoken & artistic! I so want to make one of these, but, I have a grandson. Any thoughts on how I can make it more so for a boy? I just know it'll be just as precious! ♡ Also, any thoughts on thickness of the tissue paper, in general, & using different solid colors of tissue paper? Of course, I'm mostly concerned with the appearance when it's lit up. I'll be making the standard type, & one for my my fabulous, eight year old grandson. I really want it to be very special. I am not familiar with different thicknesses of tissue paper -- I use what I have on hand. I would hesitate to use colored tissue paper unless it was a soft color. Darker colors like red or navy would affect the light filtering. Instead of a fairy image, you could use a dragon or wild animal, and not use any flowers to decorate the top.

You can also use a dollar store solar light. Simply remove the stake. I made some pretty solar lights using the solar light, jar and colored glass all from the dollar store. This is Beth, not John lol.

You can paint it if you clean the jar well with rubbing alcohol first to remove all greasiness. It still might scratch off though.

I always look for "microfine" glitter. I have all sorts of brands -- I just dump them into the same tub.

You can try. Glue it to the outside, put the tissue paper over that. It might not look exactly like she's inside, though? Can't hurt to try.

+Shaumbra66 The fairies are cut on black card stock paper. You can use a metal fairy shaped die. I know Spellbinders sell some. These were cut on a digital machine (Cameo) by a friend. You can also search online for "fairy silhouette" and cut it out.

hi. I assume by ordinary tissues you mean facial tissues for blowing your nose? You could certainly try, and if you saw right away that it was not working, just quickly wipe it all off before it dries. :) I would think that it would be difficult to use, though, and would tear apart even worse than tissue paper. I have seen one video that did not use tissue paper -- the entire glued jar was sprinkled with glitter.

I haven't tried glass frosting. You just want something that allows light to shine through. Some people skip the tissue paper and just glue glitter all over the jar.

It would leave streaks unless you painted a couple of coats of paint, and then it's too dark. Even white paint will not let the light shine through. Instead of wrapping, just do glitter on the entire jar.

johnterry117 I assume you mean tge tissue paper? That would be tricky. It's difficult enough to work quickly and gently on the outside, but most of us would find it challenging to get our hand inside the jar to apply the paper. Seems like it would tear more.
