This study is sooo beautiful and I am so blessed by your honest/open sharing and I am overwhelmed with the reminder that God will always pursue us no matter how broken we are.

I grew up Wesleyan. My daddy was a Wesleyan minister. I vaguely remember a Christmas or two when we used the Advent candles at church. However it wasn’t until we were in a town with no Wesleyan churches that my husband and I became Methodists. We very quickly learned about Advent and Lent. The only people I knew who observed Lent were the Catholic kids I attended school with. But as a Methodist I was given an “ash” cross on my forehead just like my friends of decades before. I also learned that you gave up something you really loved for Lent. Otherwise, giving up something you didn’t like anyway was of no sacrifice. So being a Methodist definitely helped me learn about and understand Advent and Lent.
