FAKE? ABLOY 362 padlock

Babcock's is the contractor that was made for. They are used a lot in the water industry for plant security. 90% of the ones available on eBay are stolen from the company that purchased them legitimately as they have no key card with them. I messaged about 15 sellers offering locks at £50-100 and not one had the card with the lock.

That is 100% genuine. There are no Abloy 362 fakes. Think about it, why on earth would anyone fake a big heavy padlock like that? The work that would have to go in to faking it would not be worth the effort, when they could simply fake something much smaller and lighter, such as watches or clothes, and sell them at a far greater price. I own two 362's, and because you can pick them up for such a low price on ebay, it's understandable why people would think they aren't genuine.

I agree with Walter. I knew it was real the very moment it clunked on your tabletop at the beginning. That clunk was considerable mass. And also the clink of the shackle. A fake is going to weigh little to nothing, and the keys will be plastic or made of marshmallow . Case hardened boron steel is going to be unmistakable in weight and in fingernail touch

Fake locks do not use Abloy cores, especially their newest cores.

Looks real to me but if you really want to know go try to register it by it's id number, you would need to register it probably before ordering keys anyways. and even if it says already registered that would mean it's real unless they're cloning id numbers to. Have a great day

I got abloy 350 and 362 cheap aswell, since they came without a key card. Bought them just for my collection, so no need for it :)

Key cards are for duplicating keys only, correct? So if i scored a 362 with two keys but no keycard, i have a perfectly functional lock and just can't make new keys?

How can you tell a fake from a genuine lock ?

The only real way would be to gut the lock and inspect the internal parts. And also measure the hardness of the material (both body and the schackle). If a fake still measures same as the original, it must come from the same factory because creating fake with all the same features would make zero sense for the faker.

@@danielec3269 Yes, you can easily read the correct keycuts from a video or a photo as long as the keycuts are clearly visible. Correct Abloy key is basically a single number where each digit is a number between 0 and 6 and the whole number is 9-14 digits long. It's just encoded in metal form for the lock to operate. There are some limitations for the number in practice (typically 3 predefined digit positions are always zero for a single profile) but much less limitations compared to pin tumbler design where consequtive key cuts in a single key cannot be freely selected. A key cut could be fully random sequence such as 00622220543623 and if you get a single digit incorrectly, the lock will not open. The random sequence I generated above doesn't happen to contain any 1 or 0 cuts in addition to the 3 mandatory cuts but it could have those numbers just as well. (As a comparision, cheap Chinese disk detainer locks have maybe 7 disks with 3 predefined positions at zero leaving 4 actual code numbers and those typically use range 0-5 only.) If you don't have any idea how the key is read from the photo, it may appear impossible to read 7 possible cut depths for a single position but in practice different cut depths cause the key shape to differ visually (e.g. the edge of the corner of the cut moves to left and right relative to the bow and you look at this edge instead of the cut depth directly).

Date code H33 on your genuine Abloy is August 2020. That is a new model genuine Abloy, I could tell straight away just by the laser engraving. Just because you bought a 200 quid lock for 60 quid doesn't mean its fake David! It means you got a bloody good bargain! There are No, zero, zilch, nada, fake Abloy PL362 padlocks David, nobody has spent tens of thousands of pounds to machine up to make exact duplicates of them only to sell em cheaper, putting emselves out of pocket! You have a real Abloy David! Rest assured its real, real case hardened steel body and real case hardened Boron carbide shackle! I take it you're from the Emerald Isle David, by your accent that it is! Well now, Slaint m'hath and slow on the ishke baha!

Yep fantastic lock, ss80cs was 80 euro plus the nw4 core I replaced the broken core was extra 30 euro. This is a better lock for it's everyday use, but the squire will have more mechanical protection over the Abloy as it's twice as thick. But as I say in the video, in hindsight, if I could go back in time and buy two 362 over the 80 I would've. it's just I bought the squire first. Never thought that the H33 could be a date code, Thanks for that! A brand new model good to know. I do have a few other top locks and ulocks. But these two are my CEN 6 rated locks. @@davidkavanagh4966 Yes CEN6 maximum security is the highest rating. The SS80CS sure is beefier than the Abloy, especially the SS100CS. I bought an SS100CS online for £270 but it only had the standard lock in it, which I picked! My SS80CS also has a standard lock in it...I think I might upgrade them, been meaning to for ages. So enjoy your genuine Abloy David, rest assured it will protect a bike quite well if you use an Almax 20mm chain to go with it. Mòran taing agus an aon rud dhutsa!

@@davidkavanagh4966 An Abloy PL362 is about as high as you can get. If you mean cylinders I recently put an Abloy Novel (ostensibly a protec-plus) into my Abus ROCK 83/CS80 (CEN6) and have an Mul-T-Lock MT5+ for it as well, these two cylinders are exceedingly hard to pick. Recommended. Mauer cylinders are also mega, but I can't find anywhere! If you mean padlocks, then the Abus 37RK80 (CEN5) is fabulous, so is the KASP19070 (CEN5) and KASP 19070XD (CEN6) but they _must_ be re-cored I did both with Yale Superior dimple euro-cylinders...now they're proper tough! Massive heavy-duty KASP locks are quite affordable David and easy to re-core. An Abloy PL350 (CEN5) would also be a worthy addition to your collection.

@@TheGeezzer thanks for the reply, I'm not what they would call a collector, I use all my locks daily. Your collection sounds great! I got my Mauer cylinder from squire themselves and it cost 30 euros or so, came with 3 keys and card for missing keys etc. otherwise it would have been a free crappy Chinese core again. Maybe I could make a video for you about my lock in the arsenal lol. See what a real collector like yourself thinks, and what you would have bought instead of what I have. I would be interested. I've seen an 11mm molybdenum shackle getting cropped by hand, with massive 42" bolt-croppers on a Stanley Security24/7 padlock...link... kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3y0ipWEg7aneLM ...but no way could that be done on a 15mm Boron shackle! Also, Boron is not brittle, even when cooled to -196 centigrade and sledge-hammered! 15mm of Boron is Exceedingly-Tough! What about 20mm of the stuff?... ...My Squire SS100CS and its 20mm Boron shackle...will only surrender, submit and acquiesce to an Angle grinder (Squire reckons 10+ minutes) an oxy-acetylene torch or a plasma cutter! These are the only viable, expensive options to compromise it!!

@@TheGeezzer well then we'll just have to agree to disagree. I totally believe 15mm is croppable by hand and even more on a round link like that Abloy 362. Almax and Pragmasis chains, which are pioneers in this field, state that 16mm is the starting point at which a link becomes mathematically uncroppable, that's why Almax made chains from 16mm and up and not from 15. In this video Captain Cropper (the fat guy) states on many comments that anything below 16 can be cropped by hand because above that number the jaws and the handles of the cutters spread apart so much that it's physically impossible to apply enough pressure in order to crack the link. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHSWmXmobdVlmc0&ab_channel=CaptainCropper
