I just love all of your videos! Even my husband was fascinated seeing how you create so much beauty and detail using simple tools. He is NOT a crafter, by any means, either. You are so easy to listen to, concise, but you include all the tips for having success. Your editing is perfect. You do fast-forward video when we do’t need to see details, but provide extra narration for when we do need the details. You jump ahead to avoid repetition just at the right spots. Your conversational style is calm and reassuring. I look forward to trying some of your ideas with my new gnome home!

Thank you for all your awesome videos! 😊 And a tip: You'll get rid of most of the dotted paper towel pattern if you iron the paper towels.

I find the paper towel bark has a “scary” fun look. The clay pretty realistic. So definitely depends on what your going for ❤️❤️❤️❤️ absolutely LOVE your videos.

I really loooove this video!! It's a game changer!! As much as I love the clay one, I plan on using the other method you created without clay. Thank you for creating and sharing this with all of us!!!

I LOOOVE your mind's eye... I have same make & model! 😆 I am adding wood grain/bark to an existing fake light up tree I want to use for Halloween & other holiday deco. Thank you for the inspiration!! Hugs, from Mesa, AZ 🌵

P.S. I like the masking tape & foil look better than the clay. That's what I will be using, going forward!

Id like to make trees for the fairy garden outside. Are the foil and paper towel ones suitable in the weather once they are painted?

Came across ur channel inspired to do dioramas and this is by far the best easy to do tree/bark with everyday items. Do u know how shredded or milled paper (mixed with glue) would work out as some sort of filler for the structure?

Wonderful channel. I have 2 questions, #1 if you add wire for structural support l, at what stage would you all it? #2 have you taken a survey on which bark people like best? Thank you.

Hi Sharon, Have you ever tried adding paint to your clay Before sculpt it?
@WhereTheGnomesLive
@WhereTheGnomesLive 6 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't do that with the clay because you need to tell when it's dry. Paper clay can mold if not completely dry before adding paint or a sealer. It's a great idea for the paper towel though

I have a playlist that's like a diary type series where I showed how I started off with stacking the boxes and then how I built around them and how I made some of the parts like stairs.. the stairs got better with time as I played around with different ideas.. and there's lots more, you can scroll through the playlist and skip parts you don't need kzbin.info/aero/PLNTd5TaUo3qg-c_SA6VZ8W8fqSUbLSpyq

Hi, Is this waterproof for outdoors or moisture proof to keep in an screened in porch maybe?
@WhereTheGnomesLive
@WhereTheGnomesLive 6 жыл бұрын
no, not water proof. You would have to seal it. I've never done it myself so best thing to do is talk to a professional at your local hardware store. They should know what to use. Not sure about moisture either, all my projects have been made for indoor use only.

if you sealed the finished piece with an exterior sealer. Talk to a professional at your local hardware store, they'll know what product to use.

can i use this technique to make branches coming out of the trees? should i use some wire underneath so it will hold?
@WhereTheGnomesLive
@WhereTheGnomesLive 5 жыл бұрын
small branches can be made out of foil and tape with no wires. The larger the branch the more support it will need I've made pretty large branches without wires but I used a lot of foil and tape as support. My Spooky Tree tutorial has 2 branches and that has no wire in it. It's just a small tree but you'll get the idea www.sharonojala.com/2018/10/how-to-make-spooky-tree-halloween.html

I hope you’re still replying to these, big question!!! Are you able to drill through either of the trunks cleanly? I have a big project I plan to start where I’m gonna drill things into the sides but I don’t wanna ruin them or the drill bit!
@WhereTheGnomesLive
@WhereTheGnomesLive 2 жыл бұрын
Go very slowly and don’t push too hard. Wherever you put a hole will show the foil inside. If I need to I just cover the exposed part with tape, add the paper towel, or just use the clay to cover it, let dry and paint. The great thing about this technique is you can do that anywhere. It just looks like bark in the end

a boat varnish or a regular exterior sealer. You would have to seal every part to be sure no dampness seeps in

Do you think it would be possible to drill small tiny holes in the branches for small flower lights after its dried completely or should I do the holes as I’m forming the branches? I would have to form the foil to be hollow all through the branches to run the lights but it would be easier to drill the holes after it’s dried because of the string of lights would be placed more evenly right? I love your work! Amazing how so real your trees look! I do stained glass an I love carving out a real tree in the middle and applying my glass , it’s beautiful when the natural sun hits the glass. I’m going to give your recipe a try an see what I can do , maybe I can come up with a way to add my glass 😊
@WhereTheGnomesLive
@WhereTheGnomesLive 6 жыл бұрын
oh for sure! I'm not a planner and get a lot of ideas after I've made something. I will add lights, add onto the structure or take away, after it's been made and painted. It's real easy to work with and to repair at any time. Have fun! I've never done stained glass but yours sound beautiful!

Is it necessary for it to go into the oven? Is there a way without it? I want to make a few giant trees that spreads across the room and run across the ceiling. I want to create a rainforest room. The project will be too big to fit in the oven.
@WhereTheGnomesLive
@WhereTheGnomesLive Жыл бұрын
No. I explained in the video that I was showing it could be done but fans or a hot sunny day does the same. I never use the oven, I prefer to use fans. Have fun with your project!!
