Years ago at the Hanover mall. I had a security guard try to pull me over in the parking lot because he thought I rolled through a stop sign. I just ignored him and drove out onto rt 53. About a mile down the road Hanover PD pulled me over and asked why I didn't stop for the security guard. I told him that I didn't need to stop for a vehicle with green flashing lights. The cop laughed apologized and left. I feel bad for the husband. He obviously had no idea.

I in Massachusetts and was in an incident today and now being summonsed for impersonation of an officer I was driving my fiancés car and he has lights red and white on the front that flash and my knee hit the on button while driving and I had no idea. A couple in front of me both the driver and the passenger recorded the lights on and then when traffic stopped at a light I wanted to take a right to head to pick up my kids from school but they were in the way of my lane. I had my window down and the passenger female was recording and I mentioned it would be helpful to not be in the middle of the right turning lane line so nobody could pass and that they should move to allow traffic and officers or whoever through. I’m now being charged with impersonating an officer! Please help me!

This raises an interesting issue. IF the spouse has some form of permission to possess, own, operate a vehicle that’s equipped with emergency lights and/or sirens, - should family members be allowed to operate that same vehicle? Maybe the hubby has authorization for the lights, and being responsible, he comprehends when he can legally use those lights. But along comes his bug nut wife, who thru some deluded sense of entitlement thinks it’s ok for her to misuse those lights. Which endangers the safety of all other citizens. Say they have teen kids, can their teenage borrow the car? Where the temptation to misuse the emergency lights would be overwhelming to a teen. NNH did a video. In that video it was even more egregious because the husband was permitted to use a official marked patrol unit to travel to and from home. But in the video- the cop arrived at the station, got out, and his wife (who had absolutely no police powers, she was a housewife) slid over, taking control of a fully functional police unit, and drove home! Raising the fear; say the wife got in a road rage, she had the ability to misrepresent herself as a cop. Say she was late for little league drop off, she could misuse lights&sirens and speed thru the streets Without Police Drivers Training. Then what if she caused a huge wreck? Who’s insurance/liability does that go off?
